Rules of Engagement:
A Call for Southern Border Contingency Plans By J.J. Johnson Published 03. 10. 2002 at 19:09 PST |
You made have heard a report that is floating around the internet about a number of Arab nationals filling up jails along the southern border, and that their illegal entry to this nation may be increasing greatly. This information is UNCONFIRMED at this time, but it brings up an important issue that should be discussed among Real Americans. Heads up, People: Sierra Times is looking into this matter, but this situation is worthy of more than a hot news story. If this information turns out to be credible (it's leaning in that direction, folks), it will be the responsibility of the federal government, the state, and the citizenry to take whatever steps are necessary to stop such encroachment of our national borders. Knowing the track record of the abovementioned "official" entities, the citizens better be danged well prepared to be the last line of defense, and I don't need Tom Ridge to tell me that. The Sierra Times called for a Southern Border Advisory shortly after September 11, and it remains in effect. I also believe that contingency plans should be discussed and drawn up to deal with such a contingency should it ever occur. We have a forum available for that task. Now, just saying that will undoubtedly raise the eyebrows of Assistant U.S. Attorneys, federal agents, and other resident spooks who'd just love to arrest some folks on a conspiracy charge, thinking they're keeping the country safer by 'doing their jobs'. Here's my message to them: Good luck trying to get a jury to convict some law abiding American for conspiring to stop Arabs (or any others) from crossing our national borders illegally, and asking for law enforcement's help in doing so. In fact, it would be nice if you fed folks would either lead, follow, or get the h... out of the way. After all, it is one of those specific federal duties outlined in the Constitution. Meanwhile, possible conspiracy charges can be avoided by simply not discussing the Second Amendment/Use of Force aspects to this operation (that discussion and protocol is for the constabulary among us). However, denoting staging areas, intelligence gathering, and the logistics of transporting manpower and equipment to staging areas are fair game. Also helpful would be building good relationships with border patrols, local Sheriffs and border residents. Ladies and Gentlemen: this is a 1500-mile border this government can't begin to patrol. They need help, despite what you hear from Washington, from the people on the ground there (yes, even the border patrols and the INS have been calling for assistance). If that be the case: Can it be done, and how does it get done? This is going to require that Real Americans begin talking about it, and putting plans into actions. I don't have time to sit here and spell it out for everyone: weather conditions, terrain, financing, first aid, translators, chain of command, staffing, shelter, emergencies, etc. [might insert Liberty Incident info here] Yes, former and current military experience would be helpful. Law enforcement can and SHOULD weigh in here. As far as civilians are concerned, the people closest to the scene should call the shots (no pun intended). If no plans are developed to deal with it because no one wants to get in trouble or be labeled as 'extreme', then we are ASKING for an invasion from our southern flank, and we don't deserved to be a free people if we refuse to take steps to protect ourselves and our fellow Americans. For those who think it's more important to have a Constitutional government that it is to deal with this issue, I say to them that you can't have a constitutional government if you don't have a country to govern. And yes, this is one of the Tenants of Operation Restore Eagle. This is war. This is serious. These are the Rules of Engagement. And we'd better start acting like it. |
I'd like to see the legislatures of the border states enact "border patrols" on their borders, since the feds are unwilling to do it.
How about we recruit, draft if necessary, a whole bunch of guys for Border Patrol duty, then use the whole border as a giant training ground? They can learn to shoot, walk patrols, practice engaging the enemy, and all the other 'soldier stuff' while performing a valuable service to us who live along the border. Oh, and if they encounter some illegals 'immigrating' they can use them for practice too.
After a fashion, there are such patrols being run. We even have a formal military organization operating out of Texas that is responsible for them. The problem comes with the vociferous objection coming from certain citizens (Bisbee, AZ comes to mind...) and the sensitivity of the military to that vocal expression.
As long as someone is giving bad press to the "Militarization of our Borders", we're not going to go there. I think that needs to change....
Well...no. The problem is that the US Government WON'T patrol it.
Let's suppose we need 1 person every 100 feet. That's about 100,000 men. And they need time off, vacations, and so forth...and they work just 8 hours per day. So multiply by 4 to get 400,000. Add some admin people, and we're at a half million.
So, what do we pay them? How about $50,000 per year, including health coverage and retirement. That comes to $25 Bn. Given our current budget that's almost in the trivial category.
The simple truth is that our leaders don't want the borders controlled....
