OK, I read this whole thing and I STILL don't understand why everyone is so upset. Did I miss something? Where is the amnesty for all illegal aliens everyone is screaming about?

In my opinion, those who facilitate the Mexican Invasion are Domestic Enemies of the Constitution, and should be dealt with accordingly.

307...the Attorney General and the Secretary of State shall consider whether the country reports to the United States Government on a timely basis the theft of blank passports issued by that country.

We're dealing with Mexico, here... isn't this the land of manana?

I'm still reading... more later.

Most of what's in that bill is NOT the problem. Most of it already passed as the good border security bill, H.R.3525. The new bill is a sneaky retread of that bill, They took H.R.3525, and tacked on what is called the 245i extension, and renamed it H.R.1885. This is purely a legislative trick.

Here are some links that explain what the 245i extension is:

Hope this helps

Section 607 in the posting or the #1 reply is at the heart of the discussion, take your choice.

You will need a universal government translator however.

When this originally came up last year, provision 245[i] applied to about 200,000 illegal immigrants. Not millions. I don't think things have changed in that short period of time. My opposition to 245[i] is based on the fact America is currently at war and should not allow undocumented illegal immigrants the right to stay here. The INS is out of control. It should be abolished and rebuilt from the ground up. This is bad policy and bad timing.

We both know the President doesn't support across the board amnesty for illegal aliens. Never has and never will. The President reiterated that fact in todays press conference.

You are dead wrong about Bush opposing illegal immigration. BUSH SUPPORTS ILLEGAL MEXICANS, THATS WHY HE WANTS TO LEGALIZE THEM.

"We both know the President doesn't support across the board amnesty for illegal aliens. Never has and never will. The President reiterated that fact in todays press conference."

Here are his exact words today:

THE PRESIDENT: Oh, the immigration issue?

Q Yes, the immigration issue. So when are you going to present any concrete steps in that direction for Mexico?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, first of all, we are working closely with Mexico. We've had many of our administration officials down there. Tom Ridge just came back; he had a very good dialogue with President Fox. John Ashcroft has been very much involved with the Mexican government. We have had wide-ranging discussions as to how to make the border work better, how to make the border more secure for both countries. We've had a really good dialogue.

Some of what needs to be done didn't require law. I'm glad you brought that up. We just got 245(I) passed in the House of Representatives. Hopefully, that will come out of the Senate quickly. That's a step toward -- that's a good reform, is one that I support. I also cautioned President Fox at the time that THERE WILL BE NO BLANKET AMNESTY IN AMERICA. I don't think the will of the American people are for blanket amnesty. I think he understands that.

And so, therefore, the thing we've got to do is figure out how to make sure willing employers are able to match up with willing employees. And so we'll work -- we're making progress; 245(I) is good progress. [end of excerpt]

President Bush, Press Conference 3-13-2002

Thanks Matchett-PI.

But this bill is still bad law and bad timing.

You're right its bad law, the bigger problem is that, as noted above, 245i is only step one in Jorge's Amnesty in Phases. Next comes the employer-foreign employee matching phase, then comes the arrival of everyone related to the people in phases 1 & 2. -- But what's national sovereignty when there's ethnic pandering to do?

Its should also be noted that illegal immigration is about 1/3 of total immigration. What is really driving the deconstruction of this country is the wide-open flow of extended-family legal immigration kicked off by the 1965 immigration act. An act, that apparently, even war cannot undo.

If you have one relative here, or have someone who will say that he'll hire you, and you are here by next November, and pay your $1000, you'll now be here legally. No doubt Fox will have the applications to bring with you. If you forget your application or lose it on the way over, no problem. There are now 43 Mexican Consulates in 19 states to help you with the paperwork.

This e-mail is from NumbersUSA:

When you call your Senators, urge them to introduce an amendment to H.R. 365 (passed by the House last night) that would strip the SEction 245i amnesty from the bill. That would leave all the good visa-tracking stuff that the House already passed in December.

If they can't strip out the amnesty, we urge that the bill be defeated, even though it has lots of good stuff in it. The Senate has all the good stuff in HR 3525 waiting to be considered. Defeat HR 365 with the amnesty and pass HR3525.

I urge all to contact your Senators about this.
