Poodle called to jury duty - and is a registered voter

LAFAYETTE, Calif. -- Barnabas R. Miller, registered Republican, has been called for jury duty in Contra Costa County this month.

There are two problems -- Barnabas is only 9 years old, and he's a poodle.

His owner, Donald Miller, wanted to point out holes in the voter registration system.

"If I can register my dog, then anybody can register," Miller told the Contra Costa Times. "You're supposed to be a citizen. He doesn't even have a driver's license."

But Barnabas received a jury summons, and now Miller, a 78-year-old retired iron worker, has some explaining to do.

"He should not make his point in this manner," said Candy Lopez, the county's assistant registrar.

Shad Balch of the Secretary of State's office said the voter registration form is signed to testify the information is correct -- under penalty of perjury.

Balch said a perjury conviction could get Miller four years in jail.

Prosecutors aren't sure if they'll press charges.

"I have never heard of it happening before," said Brian Baker, a senior deputy district attorney.

California's voter registration laws changed in the 1970s to let people register by mail, rather than solely in person.

"He should not make his point in this highly effective manner," said Candy Lopez, the county's assistant registrar.

This explains a lot, of course we already knew that illegals and dead people have been voting Democrat for years.

Yep, that is correct. Just like it got the President of the United States four years in jail not too long ago!

This guy is a copy cat. Same thing already happened in Florida (a poodle being registered to vote).

Organizations in Claifornia that represent the interests of illegal aliens are furious. They claim that this guy is demeaning and belittling those fine folks who have snuck across the border and are enjoying ALL the benefits of US citizenship, including voting in elections and receiving at least $5 for each vote cast.

Comparing Mexicans to this dog is offensive and almost certainly, a hate crime. If the INS can forgive these illegal aliens and allow them to enjoy life in the US without fear of being arrested or deported (unless the illegal is a Cuban child and Reno, the Butcher od Waco, is in charge), certainly this cute little poodle and its master can be forgiven, as well.

"He should not make his point in this manner," said Candy Lopez, the county's assistant registrar.

Translation: "No one should be allowed to point out the flagrant flaws in our voting system. Pulling a stunt like this might draw scrutiny of our registration system and we can't have anyone examining this issue too closely because it might expose the level of illegal immigrants registered to vote".

Okay, Candy, can you think of another way?

This guy is a copy cat.

With all due respect, I think you're missing the point. Read it again: "Barnabas is only 9 years old, and he's a poodle." A poodle is a dog not a cat!

Well obviously it is time to prosecute Miller like they did Linda Tripp.

Yes he should. Especially if the dog is a pointer.

I can think of no better way to make his point, actually. It's good old-fashioned civil disobediance!
I suppose the government will now want to send the dog's owner to obediance school.

Should've registered Barnabas as a Democrat. It wouldn't even have made the news then.

>>>This guy is a copy cat. Same thing already happened in Florida (a poodle being registered to vote).<<<

If all poodles in Palm Beach were registered to vote instead of their owners, there wouldn't have had a problem with the butterfly ballot - any poodle of average intelligence could have figured it out.
