Exactly, see my post #30. Baghdad will end up glowing alright, great, but the thing is, that won't bring back the lives lost in an attack on Israel.

Speaking of Israel..is this going to be another case of 'stand aside Israel and let us do our thing'? I think likely unless Soddhomite rains death down on Israel in massive fashion as you suggest.

Alas, Babylon, that great city...for in just one hour, your judgment has come.

I'm not convinced Babylon is Iraq. Why would the merchants of the earth be upset to lose Baghdad?

During the Gulf War, Saddam launched the Scud's at Israel in an attempt to provoke Israel into attack Iraq. If Israel attacked Iraq then the coalition would be split. The arab nations where we were based out of could never fight side by side with Israel against a fellow arab state. The coalition would be shattered, that was Saddam's intention.
The US managed to force Israel into not retaliting then, but now its different. We wont be basing out of Saudi Arabia this time, there will be no massive ground campaign. There is no coalition to break up this time, so the gloves are off for Israel if she's attacked.

Based on the paradigm shift in the way warfare is conducted in the open, this is going to be one ugly slaughter. You would think the generals are not too pleased about the decimation about to take place in the field. I cannot believe they will let Hussein and his evil progeny commit national suicide.

Bad place to be, on the bad side of the Israeli...they've got a nasty habit of killing people without a second thought. BTW, how publicly nuclear-capable is Israel?

Israel has somewhere between 100-200 nuclear weapons.

The Dimona nuclear reactor is the source of plutonium for Israeli nuclear weapons, and the number of nuclear weapons that could have been produced by Israel can be estimated on the basis of the power level of this reactor. Information made public in 1986 by Mordechai Vanunu indicated that at that time, weapons grade plutonium was being produced at a rate of about 40 kilograms annually.

Based on plausible upper and lower bounds of the operating practices at the reactor, Israel could have thus produced enough plutonium for at least 100 nuclear weapons, but probably not significantly more than 200 weapons.

I think you are right, there wont be any holding back Israel if Iraq hits them this time. Getting a chemical warhead dropped on them, would provoke Israel to take em out quick-time, and probably settle up other problems (Pali's) at the same time.

Hope you Fierce Repub Guards remembered to kiss your wife(s) and kids (and your butts) goodbye before leaving home. Most of you wont get another chance.

Given the choice between dying yourself (possibly along with family members) and put the troops out to be killed, which would you do?

Mothers of Iraq, your long black night approaches. Pray Saddam's goons will have the sense to put a bullet in his brain rather than subject their country to suffering.

Heh. How'd you like to be among those Iraqi troops??

"Hey, you guys, we're gonna move up north. The U.S. is thinkin' of attacking us there, and so, well, you've been the lucky ones chosen to defend Saddam."

"Uh, sir, can I apply for a 3-day pass?"

"There are no 3-day passes in the Iraqi army, soldier! Now get yourself up to the front of the line and stand up for our glorious leader!"

(meantime the commanding officer plans his flight to Jordan)

"You know, General Abdul, you have been with me since the Old Days. But I just can't help but notice that you stopped applauding before everybody else..."

LOL! That line was more than funny enough to make up for the double post.

He won't care about the retribution because he knows he's going down one way or the under. Being Saddam, he'll probably like to bow out in a dramatic style, i.e., launch a missile or two at Tel Aviv.

Or call up one of his guys in Jersey and have him toss a few bags of anthrax onto the NYC subway tracks. Bye-bye, Manhattan!

We have been warned. Don't expect Saddam to go quietly into that good night.

Maybe the deal is Jordan gives up land for a Palestinian state and gets a piece of Iraq in return. Just a guess.

Go ahead saddam, mass 'em real tight. Makes the targeting much easier.

How would you feel if you were ordered to go dig in up north knowing what happened to the dug in forces the last go around.

Load sabot! The poor schlubs know all the best are going to be hiding in bunkers trying to save Saddam's ass. Everybody on the front lines will be making flags out of their underwear to try and save themselves.

Which get's me to thinking. Are we prepared to handle all those folks surrendering? Can't just leave 'em behind you. I really think the Iraqi government with flip faster than a crack addict being interrogated by Sipowietcz.

I hate to be such a girl about this, but does this scare the bejesus out of anyone other than me,,his lobbing a couple of bio or nuke weapons at Israel. This has chills up and down my spine. I really don't want to see us have to nuke the bastard or his country, I really don't want that to happen.

All the more reason to ignore Arab leaders who say we just CAN'T kill Saddam, and this time KILL SADDAM DEAD, GOOD AND FAST.

I agree, but don't assume Saddam won't take the war home to us this time. He already has done, and there's a great big smoking hole in Lower Manhattan that's testimony to that.
