Best Place to Live in USA
N/A ^ | March 21, 2002 | Me

If you could live and work from anywhere in the U.S, where would that be?

Take into consideration lifestyle, schools, recreation, weather, cost and quality of life, etc.

Absolutely gorgeous and safe Naples, FL, where I lived for a year '87-'88. Might retire there or further up Gulf Coast, perhaps as far as New Orleans. My grandmother lived in NOLA, we still have friends there, and I like having an interesting city nearby.

The SoCal coast between Marina del Rey and Malibu was my old stomping ground and I still love it and feel very young there when I go visit my memories. But the mix is a bit too scary for me now. Alas. Still, strong men might like it as a place to live, as they don't have to worry too much about being accosted.

I appreciate that, but I think that the desire to move to California in the first place indicates a serious flaw in their character which is not completely mitigated by their current desire to leave.

If someone works in the aerospace or computer fields California is generally the place to be. Many of the people who move to Califrnia may not particularly want to be there but their high-paying jobs demand that they be there.

Why do you say it is the best in the nation. Starting to look at schools for my son. He would be interested in bio/chem/math...got any further insight on the school? V's wife.

That may be true for some, but not for us. You see having premium weather, year round, is extremely important to us. We have been in hot humidity and the freezing cold, snow and rain and have no desire to experience it again.

I noticed no state flag in your porfile. Are you in New York?

Ocean City, New Jersey. I swear that place is caaught in a time warp from the 50's. People are polite (even the teenagers on the boardwalk), it's quiet in the off season, and it's a lot of fun for all ages during the summer months. The only draw back is that it's surrounded by a socialist state. I wanted to barricade the two bridges leading in and out of Jersey and secede but I thought I might get in trouble.

I know you said In the U.S.A. but should you think outside the U.S.,brush up on your Portugese and try the Algarve Region in the south of Portugal.Glorious.People love to share there.Go there, you won't want to leave, your kids will learn a great language too.If you could stay in L.A.,Why not just move to Sierra Madre which has one of the lowest crime rates (That means next to ZERO CRIME) in America, right up against the hills?Unless of course, you're convinced WE'RE going to get the first Dirty Nuke, then I guess you're leaving.... </Sarcasm : ' )

Good Schools
Great Community
20 Minutes from Nashville
2 hours from the Smokey Mountains
3 hours from Memphis
Best of all Tennessee does not have an income tax.

A South African hovel or a neighborhood on Detroit's East Side? You decide.

You forgot East St. Louis there. Not much difference!

I would buy a house with a pool and a hot-tub in the Phoenix area, in Glendale if everything worked out well. Hey, that's where I live now! I think it's important to enjoy whatever God allows. I have lived in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Minnesota. But I have heeded Paul's advice "to be content whatever state you are in."

Arizona is the best. Don't get me started.

Not Austin, Texas. This place is the Liberal arm pit of the otherwise great State of Texas! Austin is getting too much like Houston, Texas. Big and ugly. In a few more years you won't be able to tell them apart! I'm currently looking for somewhere else to move myself.

I like your thinking. Or South Dakota.
