What does this person's political affiliation have to do with the crime?Well, apparently he said, "You don't know who you are messing with, I'm gonna make you wish you'd never tried to stop me," which means he was the one who brought up his politics. Of course, if he had been a Democrat, you'd be saying, "oh, look. It doesn't show his political affiliation. Of course, this means he's a Democrat!"

A guy who was in my original guard unit claimed to be the only registered Democrat at the Citadel (he was a California native)

He's charged with "disobeying a police officer". That's a crime that could only be a crime in a police state. I guess the state of my birth has deteriorated lately.

Yep, he's one of the republicowards. Note that he's currently working for Graham as though that particular little weenie is fit for public office at all. South Carolina republicans are poster boys for the reason southerners shouldn't have anything to do with the "GOP".

Actually that was Gresham Barrett named as a definite client - he has worked for Graham and Inglis before - no word on whether he works for Graham currently (he's on a leave of absence from all current clients according to the article)

That's a valid crime, though. If a cop tells me not to turn left on a red light and I do so, he should be able to charge me with turning left on red, not with disobeying him.
Trying to run over someone is a serious offense. Disobeying a command from a cop shouldn't be.

How come this is given more coverage than when Hillary hit a cop? Hillary hits cops for the people and commits fraud for the children; big difference.

>According to Clemson University Police Chief Lonnie Saxon (in the News article), "He told him to back up and go out another direction where he wouldn't go through the filming crew and hurt anybody. He backed up and then went forward.I wonder what the libertarian perspective is on this kind of situation? Did the police "initiate" the use of force when they stopped the prof from following his normal route, and then he rationally retaliated? Or did the prof initiate the use of force when he charged forward after being told to go back?

He's not in the Quinn camp... he's in the Heath Thompson. Warren Tompkins crowd... the same ones that made Peeler pro-compromise on the flag in 96 But a turncoat nonetheless. I was down in Clemson Monday night. Big Brother is alive and well in South Carolina and it is largely due to this ilk.

I don't believe that you can take it at face value that he attempted to run anyone over. In the political climate in SC today I believe that he would have been gunned down had he indeed tried to do so. Mammon approacheth and largely due to tu*ds like the one being discussed here. When it comes to standing up for the good in our civilisation they check their nuts at the door.

I'm not really familiar with the Palmetto Journal, but I take most newspaper articles with a grain of salt. If he had tried to run ovwer a cop or had hit a cop he would be charged with assault on an officer and would be looking at other really serious charges.
I also don't believe he said anything attributed to him in the article. People will say that so and so said such and such and they don't even remember what they said themselves two minutes earlier. I noticed that the witness providing the "do you know who I am" attribution isn't identified.
Even though I don't care much for this prof or his buds, I doubt nearly every word of this piece. It was written by someone who wasn't there and who didn't even talk to anyone who was there, apparently.
Where I come from we call this kind of report "He said, She said".

Yes, you're right. I should have said "worked" for li'l Lindsey. Lindsey Graham grates on my nerves. I declare I think I would vote for Ell Close before I would vote for Graham if I still lived there. That would be a first for me, voting for a democrat, but if the race is between Close and Graham, y'all will have a tough choice to make.
Ell's Great-great Grandpa, Colonel White was as solid a man as ever came out of South Carolina, as was his great Grandpa White and his Grandpa Springs. Graham's people were who?
In South Carolina, that's what the race may very well come down to. Sorry for getting off topic.

To be fair to the GOP in South Carolina,it can't always say who is Republican or not. In any organization that has some size to it ,there'll be some obnoxious so-and-so's.There's going to be a good many examples of this in the GOP because the party has grown to dominance in South Carolina.
That fellow at the Citadel who claimed that he was the only registered Democrat there could probably be declared an endangered life-form.As for as Lindsay Graham is concerned ,I'll decide by election day. However,I hope the Libertarians and the Constitution Party find a good alternative if one is needed.

What you say is true but those men would, IMO, thrash the present day generation for adhering to the vote-buying schemes popularized by FDR.

I grew up in Fort Mill and went to school with Ell's sister Pat. Ell's younger than I am and I don't know him well, but I know his family's history and there are some very honorable men in his line. Also, he isn't a politician, he started work in the card room of his family's cotton mill when he was in high school and still works for the company. When I used to run into him from time to time before leaving South Carolina, he struck me as being a decent man. Maybe he'll get away from the democrats. I hope so if he means to run for office again.
Graham's a career public tit addict. I won't be voting in the election because I live in Virginia now, but I dread seeing another career boy elected to the Senate from my home state.

"You don't know who you are messing with, I'm gonna make you wish you'd never tried to stop me,"Nah, I would have guessed "Hollywood" or maybe Gray Davis ("I kept the lights on at this paper!..."). (^:
