Thursday's edition of the Greenville News reported that Clemson University professor and political consultant David Woodard (pictured in his police photo at left) was arrested Tuesday following the completion of a SLED investigation of an incident that occurred February 28. He was charged with assault and battery and disobedience to a police officer.

According to the article and police reports, the incident occurred in front of Tillman Hall while a film crew from MTV filmed a segment for the show "Road Rules."

According to the statements and article, Woodard attempted to pull into Tillman Circle through a barricade that had been moved so that a motor home used on the show could enter the circle. Woodard was stopped by a police officer and told that he needed to back up out of the area instead of driving around the circle.

According to Clemson University Police Chief Lonnie Saxon (in the News article), "He told him to back up and go out another direction where he wouldn't go through the filming crew and hurt anybody. He backed up and then went forward. He hit the officer and drove through the crowd like he was instructed not to do."

According to the police reports, Woodard had also asked what was going on in the area behind the barricades. When told it was MTV, Woodard said "I know MTV and they're a bunch of crap too!"

The police reports indicate that when stopped after hitting the police officer Woodard stated "You don't know who you are messing with, I'm gonna make you wish you'd never tried to stop me."

The police reports indicate that there were several witnesses, including Clemson students as well as members of the MTV crew.

A SLED investigation was warranted because Woodard and Saxon are both university employees. Woodard's attorney maintains his innocence throughout the article. His attorney even compared the situation to a parking ticket, which was strongly contradicted by 13th Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail.

Woodard has received awards for his teaching and authored two books. He is also affiliated with the Strom Thurmond Institute at Clemson. In the past he has worked for candidates including Lindsey Graham and Bob Inglis. The article in the paper indicated that he would be taking a leave of absence from all campaigns he is currently involved in, including the campaign of Gresham Barrett for Congress.

What does this person's political affiliation have to do with the crime? We know from the Florida Pres. election that over 60% of the felons are Democrats yet journalists never say, 'John Doe, a Democrat who voted for Gore, works for PAW and joined the KKK in the 50s, assaulted and robbed a clerk last Friday.....'

Plus he's not just a voter... he's a highly prominent consultant in SC... runs statewide polls for the Thurmond Institute and consults for candidates, including Graham and Inglis and Barrett

What's "Road Rules?"
One of the really stupid shows that MTV prefers to music videos these days. There are several of these, "Road Fools" may be the most unwatchable of them (no small feat). Why Clemson chose to disrupt their university for this modell is unguessable, but I hope for the sake of the taxpayers and students they got paid for it.

Hitting the cop was bad, very bad. But it's too bad he couldn't have drove through their set without doing so.

Jeff didn't this guy cut and run during the Battleflag battle?
I seem to remember him giving a statement regarding
the "inevitable" removal of same from the dome.
Isn't he a friend of Rikki Quinn and the other turncoats?

I know you are up on this and/or have contacts.
Inkwirin' mindz wantz to know!

There was an up-and-coming local politician, a guy I went to high school with, that had a run-in with the cops a few weeks before the Big Election. He had parked his car illegally, went about his business, and returned to find his car being booted. The young politician then began berating the boot-installer, issuing threats similar to Woodards--"Don't you know who I am? I have friends in important positions that will make your life miserable!", etc., etc.

Unbeknownst to the politician, the boot-installer was wearing a microphone and was recording everything being said. The local paper printed the tirade word-for-word the next day...on the front page.

Kinda lost track of that classmate of mine after that.

He's not in the Quinn camp... he's in the Heath Thompson. Warren Tompkins crowd... the same ones that made Peeler pro-compromise on the flag in 96

"I know MTV and they're a bunch of crap too!"

Well, at least he's an honest man, even if he is obviously arrogant.
