A couple of items that are just plain stupid
The Arrakis Street Journal | March 22, 2002 | Paul Atreides

Being sidelined by outpatient surgery, I have had the opportunity to channel-surf in that great wasteland that is daytime television. I saw two segments that just made me shake my head:

First, I came across CourtTV just after the Dog-mauling verdict had been read and a lawyer was on there making the statement that the old hag dog-owner was found guilty because the jury had an intense dislike for her husband, therefore, transferring that dislike to her! Anytime a woman commits a heinous crime, there is always SOME reason why it is not her fault!

Second, while waiting for Judge Judy to come on, I came across a new talk show called Ananda, and she had a black woman on there who wanted to convince her white husband of the rampant racism she faces every day of her life (by having him disguised as a black man). She claimed to having been followed around in jewelry stores and department stores and to be passed up by cabbies. In order to give the hubbie the same treatment, the talk show had him done up in blackface and sent out to stores where ACTORS pretended to follow him around, distrusting of his motives! I just had to wonder, if this sort of racism is so rampant, why did they have to hire actors to be the perps?

Ah, what a culture in which we live!

That's what recuperation is for, to make you appreciate what you did before recuperation. Hope you didn't have a relapse watching Court TV.

Watching that old leftie, Rikki Kleiman, would give me hives!

Call a worm, Paul!

What, pray tell, did you have done (curious since I've just tip-toed through the same wasteland).

You didn't even sample the deeply philosophical Jerry Springer or the deeply moving Oprah. You haven't really experienced daytime TV yet.....

Why couldn't they dress him up like Eddie Murphy did that time on Saturday Night Live, where he spent a day as "Mr. White"? That was hilarious.

Get well soon....and resist the temptation to use atomics on your television. Turn the damn thing off and give The Orange Catholic Bible a reread.

I had an inguinal hernia that needed repairing.

You haven't lived until you have had a five inch incision in your groin!

Nancy Grace is attractive. Better still, she has the appropriate attitude most of the time. She wanders off the reservation from time to time, but her prosecutorial credentials keep her in check.
