Under no circumstances did I mean that a man who had openly declared his homosexuality, or acted on it,should be ordained. My statement was made about the ones who were psychologically profiled and perhaps been determined to have had homosexual tendencies. If they had never acted on them or supported homosexuality as normal and had been accepted despite the testing I think ordination would be acceptable. I would assume that any mature adult has wondered about homosexuality and thought about people's attractiveness. On a test would that register as a homosexual tendency? Who knows? I know I am not clear but these tests make a significant difference because they could be misused and,or designed poorly. I think this is a whole new wrinkle and needs to be reviewed carefully.

Thanks for the ping... IMHO a person does not need to be enrolled in seminary to serve the Lord... I don't think this is what you were suggesting, but it is worth pointing out...

I'll pray for anyone who has a vocation, but I sure hope someone bothers to ask these seminarians whether they like gladiator films before they let them settle in.

Thank you for posting this. It is a positive piece.

....students and faculty members said they were grief-stricken over the Church's latest sexual abuse scandals, and also very angry. Not at the bishops who protected the abusers, but at the priests who, as one student put it,"have brought us all down."

How refreshing that the students and faculty have got it right. They lay the blame at the perpetrators feet where it most assuredly belongs. It is a liberal tendency to focus blame on anything and everything but the criminal. Thus, the cover-up angle that the media has been hyping. The bishops merely responded, however wrong and misguided in hindsight, with the forgiveness and compassion they have been conditioned, as Christians, to give. It is the homosexual predators that are responsible for this scandal. It is heartening to see that future priests are aware of the facts.

Roger Cardinal Mahony has been hospitalized with a blood clot in his lung.

May God be merciful to Cardinal Mahony and bless him, give him the Light of God's face, and keep him in peace.

May St. Catherine of Siena intercede for him, and may the Lord Jesus Christ of his great and divine mercy visit Cardinal Mahony with His healing presence and the light of truth and peace.

Please join me in saying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for Cardinal Mahony this evening at 8:00 PM Eastern (or at whatever time you can this evening).
