Clinton to Replace Dead Buddy with New Dog

Ex-President Bill Clinton has told friends that he intends to replace his dog Buddy, who was tragically run over in January while running loose near the former first family's Chappaqua, N.Y., mansion, with another labrador retriever from the same breeder.

During a conversation with former Texas Governor Ann Richards at a gathering at a Manhattan restaurant this week, Clinton reportedly grew morose when asked about Buddy. "But he brightened up, saying he would get a new lab in June from the late Buddy's breeder," reports gossip columnist Liz Smith.

The revelation came as the president announced he was "sprucing up" his image, Smith said.

In February, Clinton told a Woodbury, New York audience that he liked living in tony Westchester, N.Y. because it reminded him of the Arkansas of his youth.

"I love living in Westchester County. I like living in a little town again where I know all my neighbors."

Then, turning maudlin, Clinton added, "I like it [but] I miss my dog ... I miss my dog."

Buddy was the second Clinton dog killed while roaming unattended. The first, a cocker spaniel named Zeke, was hit by a car while running loose in 1991 near the governor's mansion in Little Rock, Ark.

It was then that the former first family got Socks the cat, who, according to then-Clinton press secretary Susie Whiteacre, was to be their second and final pet.

"Socks is pretty much Chelsea's cat and I don't expect them to get another dog," Whiteacre told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette at the time.

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton explained to an acquaintance that Zeke was killed "after years of near misses," according to Newsday.

"We still miss him, especially Chelsea," she added. "We haven't even tried to replace him, but have a great cat named 'Socks!'"

The Clintons gave Socks away to longtime Clinton aide Betty Currie in January 2001.

A few days after Buddy's death, Ingrid Newkirk, president of the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, complained publicly that the Clintons had failed to take "adequate precautions" to prevent Buddy’s death.

"We understand that Buddy is the second Clinton family dog to be killed in traffic," Newkirk wrote at the time. "Please let him be the last."

Newkirk was unavailable for comment on the news that Clinton intended to get yet another dog.

"Okay, Buddy, I'm going to throw this ball really far, and you go chase it. Even if it goes into the street, I want you to chase it. Don't worry about the traffic - they'll stop (heh heh heh). Okay, boy - here goes! Wow, if only I could get Hillary to chase tennis balls so willingly ..."

Getting a dog to "spruce up his image". Sheesh..... He is so shallow that he doesn't even understand how bad that sounds. His new dog, just like his last, is to be an accessory to make him look better to the public.

Clinton should be taken to court by PETA to get him barred from ever owning another pet as long as he lives. Among his many titles of shame is a new one "Clinton, serial abuser of pets."

#38 I agree. Looks like he COULD at least spend some $$ and get an invisible fence. HE'S never "home" so he would never care for any animal. If he insists on a pet, I'd recommend an acquarium of fish.

IMO he's green-jealous of all the favorable photo ops Dubya and Laura get with Spot and Barney.

Clinton doesn't strike me as a man who would like dogs.

I read just recently that the Clinton's never allowed any of their animals into the family quarters at the White House.
They supposedly would keep the dog and cat kenneled until it was time to go outside and have pictures taken.

Clinton doesn't strike me as a man who would like dogs. Maybe he thinks they are a chic magnet.

Remember Socks the Cat? Buddy replaced Socks due to a poll Little Big Fraud® commissioned, which showed more favorable results for dogs. Just one more of a nearly-infinite series of swindles perpetrated on America by this one-man crime wave....

If you think about it, we are all props for Bill Clinton's ego.

x3 is a good name, and certainly more succinct than my suggestion, "The Next Casualty of the Hideous Clintons." Here, boy! Here, x3!

"I like it [but] I miss my dog ... I miss my dog."

BS! At least Socks and probably Buddy were never allowed in the living quarters at the White House. Clinton will do and say anything to get his name in the papers. The media went ape sh*t when he first got Buddy so he's going to try it again. He cares about nothing but himself.

...why he is getting his picture on the latest issue of Newsweek?

Because it has been a slow news week -- NOT!

This week alone 185 Palestinians dead/100 Israelis dead. Hardly what one would consider a slow news week. No, those libs at Newsweek just needed a reason to strap on their gold-plated kneepads.

They must miss President Droopy Drawers very, very much.
