Oscars' Subtle Bigotry Embarrassing

"Halle Berry was very good in the Flitnstones. Very Victoria's Secret, purring like a kitten, and the perfect contrasr to John Goodman's Fred. She's a B movie actress who logged a torrid love scene and apparently a good performance that landed her an Oscar, an achievement second in history, according to her acceptance speech, only to the Emancipation Proclamation and the discovery of penicillin.

Her Oscar acceptance performance was right up there with those youthful thespians who play Ado Annie in junior high productions of Oklahoma. Ms. Berry's overacting topped Julia Robert's yammering, sending a drifting uneasiness through the Kodak Theater with Academy members thinking, "Should have voted for Maggie Smith and a little British class."

This year's Academy Awards were a slap in the face to every black in America. Condensension was transparent. A Marlon Brando snub was called for and instead we suffered through sycophants kneeling at the golden alter of Oscar, symbol of Hollywood decadence, socialism and now racial stratification.

Ms. Berry and Denzel Washington's wins, coupled with Sidney Poitier's longevity award, were Hollywood racial pandering. Mr. Poitier had already won an Oscar in 1963 for The Lilies of the Field, but everyone behaved as if the honorary award, bestowed on the likes of film festival Robert Redford was magnanimous. Stale and offencsive Whoopi Goldberg only added to the decent into mediocrity designed to remedy discrimination. Even with writers, there's not an eloquent voice in Hollywood. Ms. Goldberg has perfomed better on Hollywood Squares.

This year's Oscar's subtle bigotry was embarassing. coupled with Ms. Julia Roberts' affected affection, the event set us back 50 years. Smug moguls ginned up the "Free at last" theme. this year's Emmys should witness best actor awards for Nickelodeon's Kenan & Kel or the Power Ranger in the black uniform.

The arrogant liberal mind assumes that minorities can never solve problems or break down barriers without the assistance of government programs, affirmative action and give-away Oscars. President Bush's characterization of such programs as soft bigotry is wrong. These condecending porgrams are racism institutionalized. They guarantee a lesser place in society as they demand dependence on feigned benevolence and discourage self-reliance.

Oscar assumed that without giveaways and special recognition, "people of color", as Ms. Berry describes herself, would never achieve. Mr. Poitier's career is proof that they are wrong. Ironically, Ms. Berry's longwinded lecture on racial barriers ensures that the racial divide continues. Wouldn't it have been lovely for Ms. Berry to recognize her own merit and simply say, "Thank you." She couldn't because Hollywood made certain it preempted her win and her night to preserce the racial divide.

Russell Crowe is a great actor. No doubt about it. His performance in 'Beautiful Mind' was the best all year in my opinion.

However, his conduct is very self-destructive. I saw his battery victim on television claiming Crowe broke his hand and bit a chunk out of his neck and spit it in his face.

"I would think a person would want to win an award on "Merit" their acting ability, their accompishments, not their skin color. "

I am constantly amazed about this. I remember asking a co-worker why he was a Democrat. His answer was, "Well, I'm black, aren't I?" --Yah, so???

I come from MN, originally. The University of MN is known for its diversity, and there are many families from different countries living in the areas surrounding the University. I was exposed to children from many countries in my youthful school days. I never remember feeling differently about anyone because of their skin color or religion. It just wasn't a thought in my head...not an option even.

Consequently, I guess I just don't think the way Ms. Berry does. I felt happy for her that she won, and that it touched her so, but when it came to her getting upset and saying, "...it's been 75 years, I deserve to ..." I thought it took away from any nice feelings I had about that moment, for her.

A chip on the shoulder, no matter WHO you are, isn't very attractive.

Get YOUR eyes checked....De gustibus non es disputatum.

I've never found the Hollyfreak or Cosmopolitan Stick-Woman look to be the least bit attractive.  I actually find it quite repulsive.  She's just gross.  Her face looks like an alien experiment gone bad.  Years of experience with that type of look has led my brain to instantly fire off a "Warning! Psychob*tch Alert" whenever I catch that type of woman out of the corner of my eye.

Women like that are the primate equivalent of the French Poodle: a totally useless animal that's supposedly "fine and handsome".

Then you find out it's a prissy, neurotic, freak-of-fur that pisses all over everything.  Screw that.  Just give me a plain-Jane Aussie Shepard any day of the week.

Sure, it's not the "most beautiful" dog but, the joy it brings MAKES IT the most beautiful dog.

I think she's gorgeous!! But she's also a silly little self-absorbed Hollyweird starlet, with the usual vocabulary of worn-out liberal platitudes to spout whenever anybody is stupid enough to either give her an award, or worse yet ask her for her opinion in front of a camera.

Don't get nasty on me

Take a good, hard look at my nick.

Then think about your statement.

What are the chances of me remain civil for any appreciable length of time?

So, in 2002 when Denzel, Halle Berry, and Poitier win, with Whoopi Goldberg as host...we have bigotry.

What do we call a year such as 1997 when the winners, the host, the performers, and the special award winners were all white?

It's Hollywwod...why try and make sense of it?

Well Psycho, I guess from my point of view the grass is always greener.
My wife is absolutely beautiful, inwardly as well on the outside,
but she is no Halle, or Jennifer Anniston. But I will keep her.
I wasn't looking at her mind. just what is on the outside.
