TERRORIST PLOT TO BOMB NEW YORK SUBWAY SYSTEM (8/01/97)
NEW YORK CITY (ENN) - Members of the New York City Joint Terrorism Task Force on Thursday made a raid on a Brooklyn apartment and seized several pipe bombs and arrested three men, described as being "Middle Eastern." The Task Force, comprised of federal, state and local law enforcement officers, are now investigating to see if there was a possible plot to bomb the New York City subway system and other targets.

Thanks for the references. My impression of this guy is, he's too wacko even for a supremacist group. His obsession is this belief that people don't really die. He thinks the government uses this fear of death to control us, but I think that's secondary. His main goal isn't to fight the government - his goal is to show us that we won't really die when we are killed, or something like that.

It sounds to me like someone who pulled phrases out of Fight Club by Jim Pahlaniuk. Some of the phrases are downright Tyler Durdenish.
Like the stuff about destroying people to save them, and the fear of death. Theres parts in the book that arent in the movie, and one part is where the characters start going off about the fear of death being the opposite of freedom.
As always, just my take.

If you have the time, could you (or someone else who has the novel) post a few paragraphs from that part of the book? It could be revealing.

Heres the best I could do, I had to type some of this from the book and copy and paste it from the script, as I dont actually know any web sites that have the full text, I think it may be copywrited.
We have to show these men and women freedom by enslaving them, and show them courage by frightening them
You have to know the answer to this question. If you died right now, how would you feel about your life? Hitting bottom is not a weekend-retreat, it's not a g*dd*mn seminar. Stop trying controlling everything and just let go.
first you have to give up. First, you have to know, with no fear, know that someday you are going to die. Until you know that, you are useless.
There you go, thats the best I can do for now. Theres other stuff, but its really more like conversations, not anything that lends itself to copy and paste style quotes. At the end the characters also start something called Project Mayhem to just generally cause alot of well...Mayhem.
Like I said, just my take but some of what I read of that letter sounds alot like the phrases used in the book and movie.

Maybe God complex ? Sounds like a miserable person with a death wish because America won't let him/her do any kind of thing he/she wants.
Pedophile? Gay who wants to marry? Wants big money or nice property for free? Doesn't like others being happy?
Without giving him/her everything he/she wants, the nation is too opressive.
This person has a screw loose.

This sounds like a candidate for the Darwin Awards. Someone Who Cares sounds like a good basis for a Screen Name or a www phrase search. I'm sure he's used it before.

Or maybe he thought he would kill some people- which in fact didn't happen.

Maybe you should inform the FBI about the book and movie! It might be a lead?
Personally, I think the person wants to get caught.

I live in Western Illinois, rural area. It looks really funny driving down our road and all the boxes are open. I would be surprised if anyone around us found a bomb. We are so remote that we are hard to find.

I wonder if the guy's initials are SWC; therefore, Someone Who Cares. I'll bet that the "W" stands for "Wayne."

Thanks for the letter post, and thanks to all who replied in the thread (belatedly!).

Thanks for posting (the story and the bombers text). There was another thread started yesterday that attempted to analyse the bombers note. There were some interesting responses until the thread was abruptly deleted. As with a number of subjects, the apathy (antagonism?) to this story by the denizens of FR is really interesting.

Like I said, the only reasonable explanation I could think of...
Good catch. I don't think the mail person was paying attention while on route. My explanation has now been debunked, but I don't mind, when more evidence is presented.
