How does it happen? A five year old girl falls to her death from a third floor window. The entire nation has heard about it by now, but, on Mother's Day, Chicagoans were hearing the breaking news.
People from across the country have waited to see if there was more to the story, but evidently there isn't. A couple who is believed to be Iraqi, or Syrian, by nationality, go for an outing. They take their other two children with them. But the little girl they have responsibility for, who also happens to be blind and roughly eighty percent deaf, they leave home alone. They go and retrieve a bath robe sash and tie her wrists to a radiator heater in the apartment, leaving for hours this, the most helpless person of their household.
Tragically, she later falls through her screened in window and crashes below three floors. She is almost not even seen by a passerby, but when he looks more closely, he can't believe his eyes.
Frantically, the neighbor who recognizes the little girl, sees the torn out window screen above, and begins to look and call for her parents. Not to be found anywhere, he begins shouting for other neighbors, who soon come to his side.
Eventually, hours later, the parents are found. Eventually, the girl has medical care given to her. But eventually has turned into far too late.
The couple the little girl lived with was her biological mother and her boyfriend. The girl's father is believed to be somewhere in Iraq.
It would be tragic enough if this was the only time the couple had left her alone, but it was far from it. On a regular basis, this little helpless one had been left alone. Even though she was dually disabled, she had learned, long ago, how to work her way around a room--seeing through her fingertips. She had discovered how to open kitchen cabinets. She had even figured out how to get into the hallway of the apartment building, where, on multiple occasions, neighbors would discover her, having fallen down a flight of stairs or just wandering on her own.
I say it all the time on my radio show. I try to encourage men--especially fathers to be involved and engaged in the lives of their wife and children.
The reason why?
There is not a day that goes by, that I do not open the newspaper and see story after story of how if only one man would have made a better decision this tragedy, or that, would not have happened.
I'm not abdicating a woman's responsibility. The feminist movement is filled with flawed thinking and has done little to strengthen families today. But I will say this. The feminists exist primarily because men have gone AWOL.
Where was this girl's father? Does he even know that she is no longer with us? Why did her step "father" not see how cruel it was to leave this girl tied to a radiator? Did he even open his mouth to object when the idea may have been floated by the girl's Mom? Or did he just retrieve the sash, help the mother tie the girl up, and then join the rest of the household to head out for their little outing?
In a country like ours, where you can get state sponsored services for everything, from food stamps to daycare to healthcare, how did this sweet little one literally fall through the cracks?
And, with all the couples in our nation who would give their hearts and homes for this girl, to allow her to become a part of their family, why this senseless loss?
Dad's, go home tonight, kiss your wives--tell them how beautiful they are, play with your kids--get down on the floor where they are, and be the kind of man that every man should be, because in doing so--you may just change the world!
This sentence is horribly wrong, feminists exist primarily to get rid of men. They hate men.
