the then 14-year-old suddenly found himself hoisted up in the arms of strangers, being passed back, over the heads of other concertgoers, until there was no one left to catch him.

I am a long time mosher. Love it. But the above is patently untrue. The act above is called "Crowd surfing". And one doesnt suddenly find themselves doing it. One climbs on top of the crowd by their own choice, or has a friend or other person purposfully lift them onto the crowd. We dont go around randomly grabbing people and throwing them up on top of the crowd.

I have suffered several broken ribs from moshing. Injuries are common, and 99 out of 100 involved in moshing realize this, and fellow moshers are quick to help one up who has fallen to prevent them from being trampled.

While it is true that we are trying to kick eachothers ass in a way, we also take care to help those facing possible trouble and danger.

And if memory serves me right, the concert (in America) that holds the record for number of deaths was a David Cassidy show.

Since you are the long-time mosher, perhaps you could explain to me exactly what moshing is. Thanks.
