Israel Has Sub-Based Atomic Arms Capability
The Washington Post ^ | June 15, 2002 | Walter Pincus

Israel has acquired three diesel submarines that it is arming with newly designed cruise missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, according to former Pentagon and State Department officials, potentially giving Israel a triad of land-, sea- and air-based nuclear weapons for the first time.

The possible move to arm submarines with nuclear weapons suggests that the Israeli government might be increasingly concerned about efforts by Iraq and Iran to develop more accurate long-range missiles capable of knocking out Israel's existing nuclear arsenal, which is primarily land-based.

Israel is probably already in talks to sell one of them to Communist China and another to Taylor in Liberia. Their pal Mugabe is out of luck however.

China could develop sub based atomic weapons on their own. China and Russia will eclipse the US in the 21st century Im sorry to say( well there is a chance of China having a civil war after Jiang dies). We have embraced socialism and are being overrun by 3rd worlders( though I hate Buchanan he is right about that). While Russia and China have embraced the free market.

After reading the article by the author, I must conclude that he is either lying or does not know what has been published in readily available sources. He forgot to mention Taiwan and South Korea as having nuculear cababilities also. Israel developed their capabilities with those two and South Africa long ago. There are other countries who possess the bomb beyond his estimates.

Of course the problem with your premise is that the Iranians aren't an Arab people.

The possible move to arm submarines with nuclear weapons suggests that the Israeli government might be increasingly concerned about efforts by Iraq and Iran to develop more accurate long-range missiles capable of knocking out Israel's existing nuclear arsenal, which is primarily land-based.

Why do you hate Buchanan,is it because the truth doesn't always fit into your world scenario?

Who's leaking this? Israel? The CIA? I can see why Israel might see the benefit of doing a bit of sabre-rattling to deter something, but I'm not sure why the CIA would leak this. But Pincus is the guy on the Washington Post who generally receives CIA leaks.

Israel will do anything for a buck is the problem. We don't let Mugabe associates in the country, Israel is selling Mugabe armored vehicles. A lot of crooks from the former Soviet Union have found a nice nest in Israel to continue their arms dealings to unsavory regimes including Angola, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Iraq. Israel keeps trying to sell Communist China equipment the USA would prefer China not have.

weikel...the PRC was building a few boomers which could hit the USA from China home waters a few years back. Haven't heard how they are progressing. Help is always nice though. Now that Bernard Schwartz is out of the business of upgrading the PLA missile force, I'm sure Israel would like a piece of the action.

The XIA and HAN-class nuclear subs were a complete failure, and are currently deemed no threat. China will probably not be able to produce anything better on their own, for quite some time. Fortunately for them, Russia has been very accomodating in selling technology.

The way I hear it each sub can carry maximum 3 nuke missles due to radiation shielding problems in these small subs.

These are rather obscure and unfounded reasons to stir up an emotion such as hate.Is there anything else?

In all fairness to the state of Israel,a lot of there dealings are at the behest of the US,kind of like a preferred contractor status.
