ALAN COLMES: Welcome back to HANNITY & COLMES. Coming up, is the game of tag too rough for the playground? Believe it or not, some people say yes, which leads us to ask our "Question of the Day," how many kids are injured playing at school each year? That answer's coming up in just a few minutes.

But you know, since the tragedy of September 11, atheists and free thinkers have been marginalized by our government and our...

Because of course, atheists and free thinkers are the same thing. And obviously religous folk aren't free thinkers. This lady exemplifies exactly why I hate the left, they truly are the intolerant ones, and I'm glad Hannity called her on it

I see nothing wrong with a cross at the WTC even though I am an atheist. Death is non-denominational and we all have our own way of remembering those who perished that day.
Enough with all this politically correct crap that's being forced down our throats. Have a cross there for those who find comfort in it. The rest of us should understand what it means to Christians.

wow - i hit "reply" and once this screen loaded I immediately hit the back button cuz this didn't look right...

Anyway - back to the topic - go Hannity! Free thinking people wouldn't be so intolerant of those who's belief structure aren't so "open minded."

Now that's open mindedness. Thanks for showing someone out there is capable of such acknowledgement.

The left is lost. They fear religion in schools because they say it influences the minds of children, forces a belief system on them. Yet when they spill out their garbage to the children, they say we should not get upset. They are idiots. Free thinking is their code word for no God. They gripe when missionaries proclaim the word, yet they expect us to listen to what they have to say via tv, school, etc.

Here is an idea - remove religion from the 1st amendent and replace it with the generic 'Belief System' - they would have to shut themselves down...

If something like a cross could cause "anguish" to an atheist, they must not be very strong in their non belief. If atheism had a symbol, it would make me sad or even angry, but it wouldn't cause me "anguish". Liberals are like children, anything that upsets their shallow little world is a big emergency and everything should stop and change just for them.

Hannity should look you up and get you on his show. A voice of reason.

Same here. I think religion is an evil when the discussion about the subject gets philosophical. However, most of the US is religious and a majority of them are Christians. Whatever. I'll live. I understand that the battle of ideas and logic (or lack thereof) about religion is entirely outside the context of honoring the dead at the WTC.

So, I'm another hard-core atheist that has no problem what-so-ever with a cross in whatever form at the site.

What's the oppinion of the Jews on this? If they think it's OK then I don't know why atheists should have a problem with this. I am an atheist and I think there's nothing wrong with errecting this cross since it's a part of the rubble from the WTC. If the collapsing building somehow formed a Mogen David out of some steel beams it would also be OK to put it there.

Atheists = freethinkers?

I don't think so. They are only parroting the liberal agenda - no Christian symbols in a public forum anywhere - government money involved or not. I wouldn't call that a "free-thinker".

I'd be willing to bet that if a muslim group wanted to display their star and crescent pagan moon-god symbol, or if Jews wanted to put up a Star of David, there wouldn't be a peep out of them.

If you want to talk about divisive and offensive let's talk about teaching my kid that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice he might want to try and calling me a bigot if I complain. THAT is divisive! But all the left can say is "stop the hate and intolerance".

Well, I think she denied that.

Who can deny that the vast majority of those who heroically marched to what would be their deaths (firemen especially... and cops) were Christian?

I'm not religious, and think the cross should stay as a tribute to their bravery.

Stanz, that's one of the most intellectually honest statements regarding Christians I have ever seen from an atheist. As a Christian, I appreciate your willingness to see that something might actually be meaningful to me.

It's another 'Slippery Slope' argument:

You let them erect a Christian cross at the WTC memorial site, and the next thing you know they'll be naming American cities after Catholic saints.

This is a big country with so much room for differences.
Liberty we got...all we need is to remember what it took to get it and hopefully have some respect for one naother's choices.

The atheists don't have faith, and they don't want anyone else to have it either. They have no respect for believers, or for their rights. They are imposing their disbelief on the rest of us, and the government is letting them. Hmmmm. Doesn't the Constitution state that the federal government will neither hinder religious observance nor establish religion? All they remember is the latter.

Agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. Having the Cross there is a simple act of showing respect and memorialising those who passed away, regardless of their religion. Other religions and atheists who object to this simple memorial should get a life.
