OMAHA, Neb. -- A pickup truck exploded in south Omaha Tuesday evening and investigators believe illegal fireworks may be to blame.
The explosion happened near 40th and P streets at about 4:30 p.m. The blast blew the roof and door off the truck. It also sent debris flying 70 feet away.
At least six homes in the neighborhood suffered minor damage as a result.
Police said Gary Zdan of Council Bluffs was found bleeding at the scene was taken into custody. Officers want to know Zdan's relationship to the truck, which is registered to a construction company.
"It's just absolutely incredible that a person was in or near that vehicle and survived that," Capt. Dave Friend said.
Officers said they found evidence of illegal fireworks at the scene. Federal agents were called in to investigate the explosion.
Stands should be put up in the corners of empty fields or city lots, I would think...
Also knows as Council Tucky!
Fun place, I spent my teen years thereabouts. One time me and some buddies were in Bobby's car and got pulled over by the SF Police. They pulled his huge tool chest out of the trunk, and seeing it full of M-80's and other contraband, asked us who it belonged to. Of course Bobby said "I never saw that tool box before, don't know how it got there." The cops snickered "oo-kay", proceeded to dump the contents into the squad car. Then asked Bobby if he needed his tool box back. "Yup.". And they drove off with big smiles. Of course, they were just trying to keep us safe!
Up here in Washington you can get just about anything from the Indians. The do-gooders and safety nazi's have Schitt fits because they can't ban them. I don't miss living in that damned old neighborhood either! =0)
That must be the rejected line from Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire."
