In a nutshell, the tax code is nothing more than rules politicians (Conservative and liberal) drafted that impose
their social engineering and values on the public. Regulations that could never pass constitutional muster if passed into law, are placed in the tax code. For example, the home mortgage deduction- Washington believes home ownership is good for individuals and the economy. Obviously they cannot abolish rents and leases or require deed to property- so they enact their theory into the tax code. Those who feel it is in their best interest to rent are put at a disadvantage (no deduction) than those who choose to buy- a decision very personal in nature depending on one's life circumstances. Credits and deductions are nothing more than subsidies for other's family planning (child credit), student loans, charitable contributions (goverment approved ones) or day care.

No. 10 is the most dangerous.

Still, all forms of taxation generate similar problems. Customs declarations? Retail tax reports?

Whatever the form of the tax we'll not change the nature of its enforcement.
