LANDMARK CALLS COURT'S VOUCHER DECISION "THE NEXT CRITICAL PHASE IN A NEW ERA FOR AMERICA'S SCHOOLS"
Supreme Court Decision in Cleveland School Choice Case Caps 12-year Battle for Competition and Accountability in Education
(HERNDON, VA)...Mark R. Levin, president of Landmark Legal Foundation, the first legal group to join the battle for school choice more than a dozen years ago, heralded today's U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the Cleveland, OH, school voucher program as the "next critical phase in the new era of competition and accountability in America's schools."
"Vouchers give hope to families who have been failed by the public school system," said Levin. "Today's decision recognizes that letting the teachers' union and bureaucrats monopolize education is the cause of decay in our schools - and that more of the same can never cure the disease."
While the concept of school vouchers was originally conceived by Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman nearly 50 years ago, Landmark represented Wisconsin State Representative Polly Williams, the author of the nation's first voucher program - the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP). Landmark won two victories for the MPCP in the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Later, Landmark also won a victory in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on behalf of one of the nation's first school privatization cases. Landmark filed an amicus brief in the Cleveland case that was decided by the Court today.
"Assistant Ohio Attorney General Judith French did an outstanding job defending the Cleveland school choice program, including in oral argument before the Court in February," explained Levin. "But now the challenge moves into the state courts where the same organizations that have fought school choice will try to stop vouchers under the laws of other states. The war for the future of America's schools is far from over, but we've won a critical battle today."
Founded in 1976, Landmark Legal Foundation has offices in Kansas City, MO, and Herndon, VA.

I am holding my breath on that one.
