WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) - Two people hiking in Glacier National Park were attacked and injured Saturday when they surprised a grizzly bear along a backcountry trail, park officials said.
The 15-second attack occurred east of Lake McDonald as the hikers were returning from an overnight trip to the Snyder Lake backcountry campground.

This is just my own theory, but I believe that it was not really a grizzly attack, but yet another attempt by a Forest Service extremist to keep people out of the woods. Unlike the arsonists, perhaps this person just couldn't cross that line and burn the forest like his fellow environmental whacko Forest Service personnel did.
What to do then? I know, he just rented a bear costume and planned to scare the hell out of anyone entering the woods.
It's just a theory, of course.

On the hike back they were lucky to have evaded the blood thirsty spotted owl.

What did these hikers do, to have caused the Grizzly bear to hate them so much as to attack them?

"Haver saw the bear about 10 feet away and dropped to a fetal position and later said she felt the bear on her but suffered only scratches on her shoulder, officials said. Jourda ran at the bear and hit it in the side,"
Of course. ROTFLMAO.

Do bears leave methane producing waste in the woods? If so, would it run off and pollute the streams, and the methane contribute to global warming......GET THOSE POLLUTING BEARS OUTTA THERE!!!!!!!!!!

Had a second thought. It was probably the hikers who left methane producing waste. Leave the bears alone and get the hikers outta there.

She dropped into feed the bears position. Where was her pepper spray. That works some of the time heven forbid that she actual would of defended her self.

Since Theron sounds like a black name no doubt that bear is a racist. It must be captured and re edumacated.

Glacier National Park has a large population of Grizzlies. Hikers/Backpackers who use the trails there know this since the Park briefs and warns everyone of potential encounters/attacks. An attack there is almost an annual occurence. Hike at your own risk. Lewis and Clark carried firearms and used them for a reason.

Having hiked the back-country there before, there are certainly plenty of grizzly as well as brown bears. The place we went had 4 fatal maulings in the three weeks prior to our arrival - of course the Rangers only told us that after we came out. (Fair enough - I didn't tell them I had a full auto Mac 10 with me either.)

We have over 60,000 grizz in Alaska and 200,000 blk bear. A few people get tore up each year. One guy last year had over 1000 stitches, had his face hanging down below his chin. You see bear along streams when salmon are in but they have fish on their minds.
Biggest problem with bear is their population explodes and they decimate the food source (moose). We have many GMU's where we are facing a moose collapse because the bear get 85% of calf production early in june.
Release grizz and your elk will disappear. Many natives believe that bear are their long lost cousins. The greenies go ballistic when there's talk of ariel bear control. Don't let them release bear in your country down there.

Theron is certainly not a common first name in the US, but you'll hear another version quite often in, say, France (Thierry).

THAT is the proper way to accessorize in grizzly country.
To: TADSLOS
That'll work. Maybe. IF you are both VERY cool-headed and lucky,it MIGHT work. Let's not forget that it is just a handgun, and it's not unusual for a grizzly to take multiple hits from even a 375 H&H Magnum, and STILL kill the shooter before they check out.

Had 3 friends walk up on a moose kill 2 years back. No sooner smelled it than a young bear stood up dropped and charged them. They all started shooting and soon as the bear felt the lead, turned and run off to their side. Bear went over 100 feet before collapsing. They found 6-7 holes in him. Just figure if he had rather decided to tear them up. Happens all the time. Every hunting season, they find dead hunter and dead bear side by side.
I have killed 9 moose with my 7mm mag, none run off; go down easy and the boy always finds that nosler on the back inside of hide when we take hide off. I would never use anything lighter than a 375 mag, for bear, sometimes carry the 45-70 when hiking up high, short & light. My friends all had 300's and 338's.
I sneak in on blk bear in devils club berries all the time in moose season, get within 10 yards of them then sneak back off, so satisfying too. I would never attempt that with grizz, around where I live they only get up 600-800 lbs, small interior bear; but they all still look quite big to me just they same. Don't piss with them and wish there were fewer of them around. They really hammer the moose calves.
