The end of the NEA would be the best possible thing for public education.

It's about time. Hold the NEA's feet to the fire.

I hope this is only step one.

TO THE NEA: If you don't show up for court, you lose. End of story, pay up...

It would be nice to see the NEA bankrupted over this court case. They are directly responsible for the failing education system in this country.

If the other 49 sttes followed suit it would amount to serious money. $40 million should get their attention.

You are so right. The pressure on teachers to join the union is almost unbearable. It begins in college as if you're joining a club or professional organization.

I was invited to join and when I stated my reasons for declining, one professor denied the political stand the NEA had taken. Another confirmed it, but said that it was only a minor part of it.

The other students didn't understand. The NEA was grossly misrepresented.

But it continues. When a teacher accepts a position, it is automatically (or it used to be; this may have changed by now) assumed the teacher would be in the NEA. You had to be very proactive to stay out.

Good idea. Perhaps there are some freepers in the other states willing to take this on as a project, start suits to separately bankrupt each unit. Warning: It's sort of like killing a hydra.

You are of course correct, but the NEA will just raise members' dues to pay the fine.

Jemian, you got the right idea (not that my opinion matters, but I'm on your side!). Although Foxnews has a Conservative reputation, the facts speak for themselves: The Teachers Union needs a course in "NEA for Dummies".

Question: Is "Evergreen" a bunch of EPA thugs, as their name implies?

The National Education Association is crying foul play after a Washington state judge slapped the country's largest teachers union with an $800,000 fine for failing to show up for court on charges that it was illegally spending members' dues on politics.

What about NEA spending money on promoting homosexual activities? Does it count as politics?

In my state, (and Alaska is as conservative as any state) you don't rock the boat or your teaching career is over. They take a couple thousand a year each off the wife and I. Now that the slickster is gone it doesn't bother me quite so much. JUst knowing that waco-clinton was getting my money ate me up. We signed off to have our pac money reimbursed and they sent us each checks for $15. ya right. Anyway, most freepers have no idea how powerful the NEA really is. They haven't started dishing money to repubs yet so I don't think they are sweating yet. Believe me the repubs would open their pockets faster than dems to NEA money. They are all thieves alike.

135, I don't know if it is or not. Probably. Watch them. You'll know by their fruits.

A.Pole, IMHO, it is political support, but it probably doesn't count in the court's eyes as political.

I did not join, I will not join.

I AM a teacher, but not in the public school system. I wouldn't send a dog to a government school.

I can well imagine the pressure that you were under. Bless you and all other teachers who have told the NEA to stuff it.

Sadly enough, what you said is true. It is hard, extremely hard to swim against the current.

"This just shows the pure arrogance of the NEA,"

Yepper! I suppose the voucher system really hurt their self esteem, aye?
Vote school choice. End the satanic indoctrination.

Frankly, I have been blessed. I have had the priviledge of teaching at a great school, have been allowed to teach the subjects in my manner and have had wonderful responses from my classes.

I would not trade my job for anything.
