It sounds like those Dems took away from the celebration.

Probably not for most people who, sad to say, are too clueless to even think about such things as the real meaning of July 4.

But they definitely detracted from the parade for me.

Am watching the PBS program about George Washington. Pretty good. Just finished watching the Regency Park Fireworks. Happy 4th to you and to all Freepers everywhere! God bless the USA!

Sure.. There are 2x4 studs in your walls. Depending on the age of your house they are either 16" or 2 fet apart from center to center. Also depending on the age of your house they are covered with drywall (easy) or smaller boards called lathe, which are then themselves covered with plaster (harder)

(As a rule of thumb older houses with plaster are 16" apart while newer houses are more likely to be 2' apart. But not always.. In some very old houses there is no standard spacing.)

In either case the lathe or the drywall is either nailed or screwed to these studs. So, you need a device to detect these fasteners.

The hardware store sells a "stud finder" (LOL! I want to see you walk in and ask for that, but it's the right name I swear.) and it's basically a device that senses these fasteners through the wall covering. (sometimes they are a simple magnet, others may be battery powered and use a hall effect sensor)

The instructions for the devices vary, but basically you slide it down the wall till you find the fasteners which means you located a stud.

OR

If you can locate one stud you can measure 16" or 2' to locate the next stud with a fairly high degree of accuracy..

OR

If you can remove the baseboard or have access to the unfinished area that's typically covered in some similar fashion at the bottom of the wall you can slide a hacksaw blade (or something else that's think and flexible) down till you hit the bottom of the studs.

Now, you come paint my boat.

Next year the mall for sure, now that the kids are old enough. The fireworks on the webcam were fabulous and the kids had a blast doing something different but I want the real thing.

The last time I took my kids to downtown D.C. was for W's inauguration. I can't wait them again in 2004 for Bush's next one.

I'm done for the day. I'm gonna have a few beers in my humble home that's in a perfectly safe neighborhood, and freep on my totally affordable PC that's hooked up to my totally affordable DSL connection, in my briefs - all due to capitalism.

What a country!

Happy Birthday America!

What a special day it was. My wife and me enjoyed the company of our 7 kids. My eldest is working for a living on his own with his girl friend, and my second eldest who just graduated from high school is going into the Marines next month. The others live here at home and keeping mom and dad young.

We enjoyed a very hot day again in New England and that did not stop us from cooking on the barbie and feasting on all the goodies.

The day ended by eating a special berry cake my wife made with strawberries and blueberries, looked just like the flag!

Then my 3 year old daughter surprised us when my wife brought out the cake from the refrigerator and started singing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to America. The part that made me the proudest is when everyone joined in!

God bless America!!!!!!

Nothing but red, white & blue heart, that's where that came from. Thank God for Free Republic, so I could have said it for others to see.

LOL, why do men like to lounge around in their briefs. I can't picture myself in bra and undies with cig sitting at the computer browsing. Now T shirt and sweatpants are more my style.

Is it me, or does it look to you like there aren't as many people there in Boston as usual?
