July 7, 2002 -- JERUSALEM - The special authorization that the FBI and Secret Service granted El Al security agents years ago to carry weapons while protecting passengers and planes proved rewarding Thursday in Los Angeles.

Some Western European and Asian countries have refused repeated Israeli requests to allow armed guards on the state airline to protect passengers while on foreign soil, insisting that their own police can do the job.

The two El Al agents went through a special, seven-month training course that included a scenario just like the one that occurred Thursday.

That is the way security should be handled, by alert well-trained individuals who do not stick out in the crowd. Wonder how many US airports have similar security personnel in place (other than at the El Al counter, that is)?

These guys training sounds something along the lines of what Air Marshalls get in the US.

Probably much much more then what U.S. Marshalls get. Every security guard for El Al must have come from a good combat unit in the Israeli Army. So that is a minimum of AT LEAST 3 years, with actual real life combat experience.

And btw, that extra 'course' that they are mentioning in the article, is run by the Shaback (Shin Bet).

Thanks for the additional info. I wish I could believe that our security personnel get equivalent training, but something tells me that they probably don't. At least not yet.

Reports from witness say that the SOB was shot AFTER he was under control of a security guard and civilians. If, and thats a big if,thats true, we lost any chance of knowing why he did it and who helped him.

Not at all. We do know why he did it and can find out who helped him too. The jihadists need not be "investigated", they need to be put down as mad dogs they are, lest the mental disease spreads. Observe the pathetic treatment the 20th hijacker is getting in the American legal system, which is apparently incapabale of dealing with Islamic terrorists appropriately

Incorrect, but then I would expect you to perpetrate the rumour.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the feds could turn up some relevant info if they rounded up you ;).

I believe all terrorists should be shot dead immediately.
It saves the taxpayers money and allows them to be with Allah!

I believe all terrorists should be shot dead immediately.

I have nothing more to add to that.

There was an army of LAPD and Federal Agents at the terminal during the shooting. Of course, it only took one Israeli Rent-a-Cop to take car of the situation. Go figure...

And we can expect to not see this mentioned frequently in the media.

I don't know what happened myself and I don't think any of the rest of us do either.

Last word I heard was that one security man was trying to restrain the attacker, the attacker slashed him, and then the second guard fired killing the attacker. I am not saying that is what really happened, just that there are multiple stories running around about what went down.

I really can't believe that they would have killed him after he had been subdued though. They would have wanted answers from the sucker as much as we would.

You know that for a fact? Where's the source of your information?

Next you're going to tell me he was in line at Mexicana airlines & started yelling, "Artie took my job."

When trouble arises, I would always prefer to have an appropriately armed and reliable individual on the scene, rather than at the other end of a 911 line.

How many more are going to have to die before our own government sits down with El-Al *and* with Mossad to work out a comprehensive transportation security plan that *works?*

I'll grant your big "IF" ... but getting information out of these jihadists is an even bigger "IF." More likely, had he survived, his attorneys would would be planning a huge circus trial where the jihadist would rant about Israel and the US. Who needs that!

Bullshit. Produce a citation for this 'factoid'.

Hmmmmmmmmm that "authority" seems like it would have come from a local city, county or state source.........but the USSS addition in that statement says foreign protective services loophole was opened for the El al folks too.

Israeli Security types shoot first and ask questions later as I have observed em..............

Example: In America we yell halt then go bang bang bang. In Israel they go bang bang bang then yell halt..........

Stay Safe !
