[history]
The FBI, in the midst of a massive reorganization in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, yesterday hired the top information and communications official of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as its new chief information officer.

Does anyone else think it curious that a Mormon named their son 'Darwin'?
To: hchutch
Go figure. I wonder who in the Mormon DC gang was pushing for this?
To: habaes corpussel
It was probably because he helped set up a large name data file.
The feds are in the stone age.

This might come as a surprise to you, but it is quite likely this guy was hired because of what he's DONE, not who he knows.

Yeah, you're right.
I wouldn't thought it would be "ElDarwin."

Nonsense. He was chosen because he has skills and experiences that the FBI desperately NEEDS, namely, information systems. It just so happens the LDS Church's proprietary information system is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, in the world whereas the FBI's couldn't even allow its agents to access the Internet (remember the hoopla around Zechariah Moussaui's computer?).
I've heard the LDS Church is willing to let the FBI copy its information system without charging the hundreds of millions of dollars needed to develop an identical system, but the FBI will still need someone to manage the transition/implementation. Who better than the person who managed the system for the LDS Church?
Frankly, I'm surprised the LDS Church is letting the FBI raid its top information manager.

You very well maybe right. If thats the case then bravo. But it would not surprise me the other way either. Especially with the Mormon influence on Capitol Hill.

Hatch.

Yes LDS is well known in many regards. Both good and bad. As far as how good it is in the information services area concerns me as a so-called religious organization. Especially when these systems are shared with the Federal Government for purposes other than religion. Additionally the Mormon influence on Capitol Hill is also known in many regards.

Additionally the Mormon influence on Capitol Hill is also known in many regards. So? There's Mormon influence on Capital Hill. There's also organized Jewish influence, Muslim influence, Catholic influence, etc.
Why shouldn't the Mormons get their share of influence? No Morman has piloted any planes into any US buildings or fired upon any US ships, and the Mormons owe no allegience to any religious headquarters outside the US, which is more than can be said about the other religions I listed.

The LDS "information system" is used for geneological research... hardly a nefarious plot. And, it's recognized as one of the best in the world. There is no charge to use it, and it can be accessed by anyone who wishes to use it. The LDS church will even translate records for people, copy them onto stable microfiche, and give back the records, and a stable copy, to the owner, at no charge. The LDS church volunteers were instrumental in archiving the Ellis Island records, which are now publicly (and freely) available to the world. The information database is spectacular, especially considering those adding to it are not "geeks", but volunteers for the largest part.
I can only imagine the furor that would result had a church offerred to SELL the system to the government. Wouldn't that be nifty? Then there would be a bunch of racketeering discussion, etc.
Mormon "influence" on Capitol Hill, hmmm? A: they're citizens, too. B: Sorry, they're mostly conservative... so they must not be having a great deal of effect, based on the current political situations. C: Are they now right up there with the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, and the Jews? WOW!
As far as being a "so-called" religous organization... well, there's no doubt of the organization aspect, and it looks like they're pretty open about the religous part, too... have you been to www.lds.org ?

It doesn't look to me like any data is being shared, at most only the information system that is used to store and process the information. It will take some tweaking to fit it for the FBI's purposes, but if it gives them a big head start and saves them money, what is the problem? Any data the church has wouldn't help the FBI much either. Members would be among the last to pose a threat.

First I do not place the Mormons in the same category as the Jews, the Catholics, the Protestant and to some degree Islam. They're roots do not go back anywhere near these other religions. LDS is suppose to be a religious organization, but they seem to be very active in forming data bases that are outside they're own beliefs and groups. Finally, they being a religious organization should not be getting involved with the US Government Information Systems outside the realm of a religious organization in any shape or form.
For your information NO Catholics, Protestant, Jewish and even Islamic Religious organization, Church or Temple ever flew an aircraft into any buildings either.

I have a huge problem when any religious organization starts doing something like this with any Federal Law Enforcement or Intelligence Agency.

Everthing always looks simple and harmless. One has to wonder why LDS even got involved in a federal program like this in the first place.
