My Son Spends time Where Folks are Aged
Vanity | OP

Posted on 08/10/2002 7:33:21 AM PDT by oceanperch

I want to keep this short.

My son has had severe CP Med fragile for 23 years. (yes not expected to make 90 days).

King Vanity(sons' nickname) is Living part time now in a rehab center in our town.

I am trying not to be over helpful.

Will take ideas. My 23 yr old adult/kid He is fully active in mind but disabled severly from birth and after 23 years moving out.

I guess what I am asking for is support. Actually the Staff from his other place is now inviting us to mile walks and other good stuff but we have our own family plans. I dance withhis W>C> at two different clubs and earn comedy show tickets. We do it all stone cold sober. Ice water and lots of it. I am very good at dancing with a 300lb chair yes honey I have the moves on....."It is hot in here ......I want to take my clothes off" Kidding !!!!!!!! I am going to need a ton of freeper support as it is hard to turn over an ICU to commoncare but they have him working in the activity dept. and he so wants to work every day.

So prayer needed that Chris can grow in a Facility that all others want to critisize as gross.

Yes it is rough living but so is boot camp. We do not have any alternatives after 23 years for respte. Later OP

I can just slowly pave the way. OP

We enjoyed dancing untill dawn (with only coke and water) and he missed the girl that his eyes fluttered at but she knnew. He sits outside the club untill I bring the Lift around and it seems he talks out there..

My gosh.

I am not sure what you are saying. I think you are saying that you have moved your son from one care center to another. And you are worried as to whether or not you have done the right thing. A professional and loving staff is a reality in many places. The more independent your son can feel, the better. You will be able to evaluate this as time goes on. What does coke and water have to do with this?

I am trying not to be over helpful.

Don't forget it.

Give him some room. And be there when he needs you.

Prayers up - I am saddened by your position and I hope that you find peace somehow in all this. The strength of some parents is truly incredible, especially when one looks at all the terrible things parents do now a days. I salute you and those who have done so much to show your love to your children. God Bless.

PS - You were rambling a tad there at the end, stay away from the ice water and coke and down a beer or twelve. Add that to your comedy routine ;-)
