Border hack website ^ | Today | some bunch of activist weenies trying to further the destruction of the US border

"Tijuana and San Diego are one city, that like Berlin, got divided by accidents and things of destiny. Tijuana and San Diego are the same city, the "i" city, the point that unites the first and the third world. The border imposes it self like a dimensional vortex swallowing the travelers with out papers" (metro-pop) "Borderhack!" is an event, which central themes are borders, and the impact that they have in our lives, may they be physical or electronically; to bring conscience worldwide and try to understand the reasons for the problems that come with them and hopefully come up with solutions. Borderhack forms part of the "Kein mensch ist illegal" (no one is illegal) chain of bordercamps, which takes place in various borders in Europe since 1998.

This year it will take place for the third time, in Latin-America. Being the border town of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, the host city. The event will take place in front of the metallic fence, which divides Mexico & U.S.A.

During 3 days, August 16th, 17th and 18th. There will be a campground on the beach, were there will be different activities like conferences, talks, expositions of photography, digital art and interactive multimedia; projections of documental videos & films, as well as, a computer area, where via the internet the festival will be in contact with the rest of the world, transmitting live video feeds, net radio, website updates and much more.

Tijuana and San Diego are the same city...

Interesting; though only if one disregards the fact that San Diego is 120 years older than Tijuana.

This article is the biggest pile of (how do you say crap in Spanish?) I ever saw. There won't be many citizens of San Diego who will like this! Most San Diegans want a 50 foot fence between them and Tijuana.

BARF!!! As a long-time San Diego resident, I state without fear of contradiction that the two cities are nothing alike! I live in "America's Finest City," clean, modern, comfortable. Tijuana is a Third-World cesspool overrun with Mexican drug gangs, corrupt Govt. officials, and even more corrupt police.

Gimme a break!

...and where an honest police chief (De La Torre) is gunned down in broad daylight on a busy street.

Yes, I can see that San Diego and Tijuana are the same city. /sarcasm>

Nogales Sonora and Nogales Arizona are the same city. TJ and San Diego are just like Juarez and El Paso, two cities very near each other. Except for the big fence and the language change they're just like Dallas-Ft Worth and Minniapolis-St. Paul. Nogie on the other hand even has the same look and feel on both sides of the border (most of the economy on the American side is based on providing parking places to people going to the Mexican side... at least it seems that way when you go down there).

And until recently seperated by miles of open desert.

I remember the "international" pavement ending just after leaving San Ysidro and resumming on into Tijuana after slugging it out in the unimproved, sandy bottom of a small creek/river.

Actually they are some very big differences. Like minimum wage for one ---in El Paso it's $5.25 an hour except for illegals who'll work for less and in Juarez it's $4 a day. Also TB and hepatitis rates ---but El Paso is quickly catching up. The interesting thing is the violent crime rate ---in El Paso it's very low, lower than most US cities but in Juarez it's very extremely high --about 8 times that of Washington DC's.

"there will be different activities like conferences, talks, expositions of photography, digital art and interactive multimedia; projections of documental videos & films,"... and drum circles and puppet shows and sensitivity seminars and white guilt speeches.

First Fox turns down an invite to the Bush ranch ( a MAJOR diplo snub) and then this hand wringing spectacle... is Mexico TRYING to look stupid?

"Tijuana is a Third-World cesspool overrun with Mexican drug gangs, corrupt Govt. officials, and even more corrupt police. "

They just want to bring their culture (yuk), their language, and their morals to the USA to increase "diversity". Diversity, the 2nd most vile word in the English language next to "Clinton".

The liberals wrap themselves in this "culture" and "diversity" crap to hide the fact that all immigration is not good for the USA.

The impact on the USA by immigration from Europe is much different than from the 3rd world.

Not to mention, the "cesspool" has ruined L.A. southward beaches all the way to baja, with human fecal content! I don't see the enviornmentalist bitching about this at all. Still blaming America for this... You can't get in the water, or if you do, are your innoculations up to date???
