Sorry if this was already posted. I searched for the title and several keywords and didn't find anything.
Sounds like NAFTA Chap. 11.
Instead of telling the 4th Reich to get bent, we just buckled like a belt. Very nice. We just gave their extortion and skiffy threats all kinds of merit. Now they can get anything they want out of us by threatening to bill us. We were probably going to change that tax rule anyway, but I don't like how the Bush Admininstration kissed Europe's ass, aplologized, and told the WTO/EU that we would obey them like good little lapdogs. The only thing we succeeded in doing is emboldening them so that they will be even more brazen next time.
I'm with you there. As far as I'm concerned, GW Bush should have had a conference call with EU and WTO officials 5 minutes after their ruling to tell them to collectively shove it.
Our government has no business giving this kind of power to other countries, especially ones that hate us. Our trade policies should be dictated by the U.S. Government only. It's only logical that the 4th Reich (EU) and WTO are going to become more brazen the way we're kissing their feet now. Are we going to buckle when they start insisting that we sell our advanced jet fighters, missiles, and ships to enemy countries out of "fairness"? Think it can't happen? They're already allowed to levy fines and dictate our trade policies for us.
Maybe it's because I've been on the road.
I haven't heard fourth reich too much of late.
This is probably a real good time to remind to world of the last reich, tell the EU to pound sand, seize all exports to the EU and place them in a holding area in sight of the UN, and wait out the response.
OK, a lot of people would get hurt in the process,
Good way to find out who has the strongest system, the better solutions, and the right to lead the parade.
[Too bad it might piss off a few dozen, or million, socialists and other assorted anti-Americans.]
They already hate our guts and do anything they can to sabotage us. We've got nothing to lose.
A WTO arbitrator ruled that the European Union was entitled to impose as much as $4 billion a year in trade sanctions to make up for European business lost because of the U.S. law. Washington had claimed the figure should be less than $1 billion. The EU is trying to extort $4 billion from the USA, and the WTO "authorized" them to do it. President Bush should be on the phone right now telling them to go shove it.
The WTO is a Bush family baby. How dare people criticize it. Peace and love, George.
They might like that too much -- it would be just like the Europeans to take that $4 billion and spend it ALL on "adult novelties."
