Fearless Flyers Shut Down

Fearless Flyers Kites has shut down production and needs help finding new supplyers

After a life time of designing and creating custom hand painted kites Fearless Flyers Kite Company has shut down production due to an inability to find conservative supplyers.

Fearless Flyers makes tie dye cotton and hand painted silk kites. This is a one man operation, that has unfortunately been acquiring materials from Dharma Trading Company. The vendor appears to be in the same district as Berkeley California and supports the same ideals, as discovered when an enquiry was made with two different sales people, during the last attempt to make purchases.

Fearless Flyers has placed orders for material once every sixteen months in the past, but has currently been building a business that calls for more frequent purchases. The purchasing power of the company has increased ten fold in the last year.

Fearless Flyers is now searching for vendors that can supply cotton and silk fabric along with silk dyes for hand painting and procion dyes for tie dye.

It would be very much appreciated if anyone has any suggestions for conservative venders or at least vendors outside the Berkeley voting district that could supply Fearless Flyers.

Matthew does not want to go into a career that requires him to memorize the phrase “Would you like fries with that”.

Sincerely Matthew B. Rogers Deerfield Beach, FL

While I admire his moral conviction, I can't say the same for Matthew's spelling skills. The word is "supplier."

That, however, is all the help I can offer.

I don't get it.
After a "life time" of business, he just recently found out that his suppliers support the same ideals, and now it's so important that he'll go out of business rather than deal with people who don't believe the same things?
Why wasn't it important during the "life time" before?

I've used Dharma before, back when I had a little side business going doing tye-die. A little more expensive than a wholesale place, but they actually do a good job at customer service.

Who cares what their political leanings are? You're not going to find many places doing dyes that are right-wing.

If it bothers you so much, raise your prices a little and donate the difference to the NRA or some other worthwhile cause. It'll give you a secret little chuckle when you sell something to a birk wearing, patchouli smelling, dread sporting, Nader voting vegan trustafarian. :)

Absolutely!

I have a second business involving dyed wool. Dharma is a great supplier. How could you see the catalog even once and not figure out where they are coming from?

Besides: they are capitalists!

I have tried many other sources and they are all more expensive and have less selection and they are all old hippies, no exception.

Do you vet your customers' politics, too? Who do you think buys tie-dyed kites?

Kudos to you for putting your personal values and integrity first. Or as they say, putting your money where your mouth is. IMHO, it is the lack of this that is the root of many of the problems in our beloved country today. It seems many modern Conservative’s values stop at their portfolio.

I'm a retired Senior Project Manager for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. These systems integrate the operational and technological facets of marketing, sales and customer service.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Good luck, S4T.

After going from spending a few hundred dollars a year, I am now to spending a few thousand dollars a quarter. That makes a big difference in my purchasing power. This is my first purchase with that power and the first since 911.

It made me consider who I’m doing business with. Not to mention they were not being very accommodating during my last contact, as someone has said that Dharma is always accommodating.

After a day of searching with the help and encouragement of some like minded Freepers I discovered not only do I not have to support Dharma, but I can also save more then a dollar per yard on material. That’s more then $250 on this order, and over $1,000 during the course of the year. I still have some enquiries out there that have not yet responded and I’m sure there are even better deals on the cotton fabrics I use, yet to come in.

I also found a less expensive supplier for the Jaquard Green Label dyes I use for silk and the procion mx dyes I use for batik and tie dye. I’m aware that Jaquard is a French company, but I haven’t found a better product yet, and the dyes they sell here in the U.S. are made here through licensing with Rupert, Gibbon & Spider, so they do support U.S. workers. But I am still looking into what voting district Healdsburg California is in.

I will continue to search for the best products to serve my customers, and what impact I can make with my purchasing power as small as it may be.

Speaking as a product from the social revolution (gag) I can tell you that not all of us are old hippies and many of us still love tie dye, as is evident by the increase in my customers during the past year.

I’d like to thank everyone that supported me and helped out in my search. You all have my respect and gratitude.

Now that this headache is about over, I can start to concentrate on another issue that should concern us all, The Sawgrass Rebellion.

Matthew, if you have a conservative (or non Progressive) source that is less expensive for Procion mx and Acid Dyes, please post it for us.

I do agree w/your reaction to the *social revolution* & appreciate the Sawgrass Rebellion link

Matt, I wish I knew someone to help you but I don't. I also wish I had some brilliant idea anyway, but, at the moment, I am still half asleep.

Sorry, I have nothing to add to your search.

I hope another "Freeper" is the recipient of your business!

I applaud your effort!

Here is link for procion dyes that is not Dharma.
they are cheaper then dharma by about fifty cents in the 2.5 oz size. I didn't check all the colors and prices do change depending on color.

I'll be out the rest of the day, let me know if I can be of any further help.
