and more paycuts (i.e. tax increases) on us hard working "masses" who are just trying to support our framilies and make ends meet. And I do mean me.

Maybe if the Cato Institute didn't advocate massive immigration to keep wages down, maybe your pay would be much higher.

This is not where we are at. Instead, we are hit with tariffs and all other sorts of fees when we trade with other countries. We should do the smae thing to them.

I disagree.
IMHO, our tax and trade policies should be based on domestic considerations and not the actions of those peoples and governments who exist outside our Constitutional jurisdiction. I view it as a situation of what we are doing to ourselves rather than what others are doing to us. That's to say: through burdensome and heavy handed government regulation, we have essentially placed much of our own resources economicly off-limits while unilaterally exposing domestic business and industries to foreign competition that is not subject to similar constraints.

Rather than a "carrot and stick" tool of international relations, tariffs should be viewed merely as a revenue source, used to help minimize other forms of domestic taxation. Such a revenue tariff would be applied uniformly to ALL imported goods, regardless of national origin. And a relatively low rate of approximately 10~20% could be adjusted to maximize revenue (neither maximizing nor minimizing trade.) This approach, coupled with the aforementioned tax reductions of other forms of domestic taxation, would return our focus to utilizing our own domestic resources, despite whatever regulations we (as a people) deem it beneficial to impose on such use.

I am just curious - you identify yourself as "the most conservative member of Free Republic" but your faith is really extremely left wing. Everything you believe is major league socialist views. For instance - you believe government spending is the way to a good economy, social security's only weakness is that it is not universal (I guess no one should able to opt out.). The sense I get is that you want a totalitarian state to control everything, major income redistribution and a state controlled economy.

Why do you feel a need to lie and conceal your real identity? I guess I don't really care. Its just one of those all time questions - do lefty's like you really believe your socialist spue or is it just pure hatred of America and you believe you are justified in lies, deception etc - anything to help achieve the end you are after.

I don't really expect a real answer, probably just an emotional attack. One day I will figure out if you lefty's really believe your lies or if it really as simple as "the ends justify your means - so lie, cheat, steal, kill - all to achieve your godless utopia.

Penny's actually not bad, somwhat socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Most of the scuttlebutt that I've heard from his supporters leads me to believe that they'll bolt to one of the major parties if the race between Moe/Pawlenty gets too tight.

If I had to pick a winner right now I'd probably guess Moe, but we'll see how things turn out in the next month.

uhhh.... duhhhh..... I peform a service and I am paid for my service. Some of my pay goes to provide my retirement.

Is ad hominum the only weapon you liberals have. You are really a pathetic breed. emotion, ad hominum, the "religious right" talisman, you ignore all the lessons of history, you are self contradictory, you just promote your self made religion trying to achieve your godless utopia - meanwhile in order to achieve it, you lie, cheat, steal, distort, acquiesce to murder and all to achieve your godless utopia.

I hope you get to live in the cesspool that you are working so hard to create - but I hope that you destroy as few other lives as possible. That always has been my main question - do you liberals really believe the inane gibberish you spue about how great a welfare state is, how great universal healthcare would be - how "feeling" it would be - while ALL evidence in history and around the world shouts out the same message - do not do this - you will destroy all prosperity and everything that has improved mankinds lot.

I know you are aware of Stalins attempt at utopia and the millions he murdered, and Mao's attempt and the millions he murdered, and on and on until in the 19th century alone your kind murdered 300 million people in the name of your godless utopia. Do you REALLY think that God will not see this? - and yet - you keep going because your religious faith of secular humanism speaks to your "heart" and you "feel" -

Maybe some day you will wake up and realize your shame. Maybe not. But there is a day coming when every knee shall bow. Good luck to you. But that won't be enough.

Cato extremists essentially advocate a "no borders" policy on both immigration

Please cite the CATO document that proves your statement. Nice use of the word "essentially", it lets you off the hook from proving anything you say. And it would undermine your credibility, if you had any.

I do disagree with their stance on open borders.

Please state their actual stance on borders and back it up with documentation.

Yeah - paid for unwillingly by us taxpayers.

Sounds like you want every government benefit for yourself (and are never satisfied) and want the rest of the population to starve.

You must be one mean-spirited person.

Are you flying the Mexican flag on your Personal Page as some sort of statement or are you a Mexican national?

As for retirement, most of us invest our own damn money and don't count on any kind of government hand out.

Governments spend money. They redistribute wealth to those who do not earn it. They NEVER produce wealth. A bigger government will only suck more of the real wealth out of our economy and concentrate it even more in to the hands of the mega-rich.

The only benefit anyone should ever expect from their government is the equal protection of Rights. Not "three hots and a cot" for life.

Nice Minnesota post.

My $.02 is that it will be a close 3 way battle with Pawlenty eking out a victory. I think this revelation about Penny distancing himself from Cato will serve to hurt him with liberal voters who might have been considering him, and with conservative voters who now see his real colors (pure politician saying anything to get elected). So I think this Cato thing will really hurt him, and I'm glad....

My prediction: Pawlenty 38%, Penny 32%, Moe 30%

What about him? Clearly stated that artios is investing money for retirement and not relying on Social Security.

I'm not. My wife isn't. Why should anyone else?

Dump SS. Dump Medicare. Dump 99% of welfare, especially for illegal immagrants. Impose an NRST. Restore property Rights and the Second Amendment. Then we can talk about open boarders. The only people who would want to come here would be those who would want to actively participate in a free and equitable market.

More government is not the answer. More government is the reason we are where we are now.

I guess you are uninformed, read between the lines.

Artios main retirement will come from his over-generous pension.

He'll probably get more in retirement pay than he makes a a teacher.

My guess at age 55 a retirmenet pay of $75,000 per year plus fully paid medical.

Now you know where your taxes go, and why you are so poor.

Meanwhile artios laughs behind your back.

Who said anything about me being poor?

I think you are lying about the retirement pension as well. How the hell would a mexican know all about the workings of the Minnesota public school systems retirement plan?

I do however feel that control of the public school system needs to be returned to the States. Federal bloat has done nothing but encourage administrators to pad their pocket books while pushing a socialist agenda for more of the same. I also believe the most of the Unions in this Country have reverted to nothing but Mob Boss's that need some serious RICO investigation.

None of which supports the need for more government, but actually less apllied the way the Founders had things set up.

Shows what you don't know - everyone knows about government pensions, everyone apparently but you.

Your are not just a liar, you are deluded as well.

As for my financial state, my wife and I would be considered "upper-middle class".

You, however, are living in a Third world country. If I was making as much there, as I am here, I could probably afford to buy you.
