Future war criminals (barf alert)

After World War II, the victorious allies rounded up top Nazis, put them on trial and executed many of them. The Nuremberg trials established the principle that waging aggresssive war is a hanging offense under international law.

Yet Bush, egged on by Ariel Sharon, is planning to wage aggressive war against Iraq.

The Nuremberg trials established the principle that waging aggresssive war is a hanging offense under international law.

I'm no expert on international law, but I thought that the Nuremberg trials established the principle that rounding up civilians into death camps, shooting them like dogs, gassing them and making them into soap and lampshades was the hanging offense, not "waging agressive war."

And what would be an "non-agressive war," anyway? The liberals' war on poverty?

Yet Bush, egged on by Ariel Sharon, is planning to wage aggressive war against Iraq. No wonder he wants Americans to be exempt from the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. He's thinking of his own neck.

Bush probably IS worried about his own neck...and the necks of our troops. Is there any doubt that such a court wouldn't rapidly turn into a Kangaroo court of American bashers?

Furthermore, the "International Criminal Court," would most likely have none of the procedural or constitutional niceties that these libs normally worship. Funny how they are more concerned with the rights of terrorists being held at Git'mo than they are about American troops.

I can understand why Hillary Clinton is against a war, she's using it for political gain. I think she's evil for it, but I can understand it.

This diatribe make no sense the minute you hit the borders of the City of Evil.

Thanks for the ping.

This diatribe make no sense the minute you hit the borders of the City of Evil.

I'm havig trouble believing that it makes much sense inside those borders. If aggressive war is a hanging offense, shouldn't we have hung Saddam for invading Kuwait? Aren't we justified in removing him now, then? Wouldn't that make an invasion of Iraq and the removal of Saddam a case of delayed justice? Or is there some statute of limitations on this imaginary war-crimes precedent?

Actually, ending of WWII gave a pretty resonable example of dealing with aggressors: hang leaders, do ethnic cleansing and annex the territory. It seems to me that we would be spared decades of Middle East tormoil, had the war of 1967 ended the same wat WWII did.

Delayed crimes bump...

We may soon see the part of the iceberg that is below the water line... In the last couple of days, we've heard about Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the Al Qaeda quartermaster who is said to have plotted the Sept. 11 attacks and financed the hijackers with money. He is also said to be a close associate and even relative of Ramzi Yousef, who is presently sitting in the federal slammer for the first World Trade Center bombing.

If we buy Laurie Mylroie's painstaking investigation of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing — as Paul Wolfowitz and James Woolsey evidently do — that concludes that Yousef was an Iraqi intelligence agent, and if we know that a relative of Yousef's was the mastermind of the Sept. 11 plot, the question arises: Why wouldn't we think that Saddam was involved in both attacks on the World Trade Center?

Saddam Hussein and Sept. 11

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was visited at one of his palaces by Osama bin Laden in the '80s. A decade later, Saddam's son Uday met with bin Laden, and Saddam gave him money. "He gave to Osama bin Laden," says Parisoula Lampsos, who says she was Saddam's mistress for 30 years. "He gave to Palestine."

NY Post Story

Mohammed, the FBI's most wanted terrorist after bin Laden, reportedly lived in the Philippines in 1994-95 with his nephew, Ramzi Yousef, said Rodolfo Mendoza, a northern Philippine police official who once supervised operations against suspected al-Qaida agents in the country.

Yousef was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. ''Many of the things (Mohammed) is suspected of plotting may have been planned'' in the Philippines, Mendoza said in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday. Mohammed, 37, has not been charged in the Sept. 11 attacks, but he has been charged in a 1995 plot to bomb or hijack 11 U.S.-bound flights originating in Asian countries, including the Philippines. U.S. officials say he also allegedly worked with Yousef on the initial World Trade Center bombing in 1993.

Using the aliases Abdul Majid and Salem Ali, Mohammed arrived in the Philippines in early 1994 and stayed mostly in Yousef's Manila apartment. In December 1994, Mohammed and Yousef went to Puerto Galera, a beach resort south of Manila, to take a weeklong scuba diving course, Mohammed said. Yousef's Filipino girlfriend told police she had met Mohammed, who portrayed himself as a rich businessman from Qatar. One meeting took place in a five-star hotel in Makati, Manila's financial district, Mendoza recalled. Mohammed and his companions also frequented nightclubs and hotel bars in Manila, Mendoza said.

Is anyone connecting dots like I am? Saddam could be behind the WTC 1993 bombing, the OKC bombing (note the date Mohammed was in the Philippines) AND 9/11. The comment about Qatar is interesting as well, they just busted a visa fraud suspect from there, according to a recent thread.
