They're replaying part of it right now - ALREADY. This is going to be on FNC all day long, I'll bet.

Scott Ritter is a bonofied Mental Case. He is delusional...one very sick puppy.

I wonder what his DU screen name is?

The Iraqis are slumming a bit in their bellicose rhetoric these days compared with the halcyon pre-1991 period. It used to be that the streets would "run red with American blood." Now they vow to fight us with "every stick, every stone and even our hands."

Can you imagine what any of those Iraqi veterans who remember the carnage that our Apaches, Warthogs and AC-130s wreaked upon them in 1991 are thinking today? Michael Ledeen said that an F-15 Eagle patrolling the Northern No-Fly zone caused 20 Iraqi soldiers to drop their weapons and surrender just by flying over them two weeks ago.

It's depressing - that's an $80 billion annyal taxpayer financed incumbant reelection scheme.

Arne, thanks for your lucid insights on the political dynamics of SD. You are so right about the political power of the farming lobby in these states.

Also, glad to hear that John Thune has a good shot at unseating Tim Johnson before he becomes entrenched like Dashcle.

I'll just have to wait for Brit Hume and the Fox Allstars treatment of the story at 6:00pm. Darn!

I wasn't going to comment on this thread...just read through the 1,000+ replies...but all this crap about the US needing 'approval' from the UN Security Council is beginning to annoy me. SYRIA is heading the UN Secutiry Council now! SYRIA!

SCREW the Security Council! Screw the UN!

Asman's interview of Scott Ritter was incredible. He dismantled him--and we finally found out who really paid for his trips (I missed the name of the foundation sponsored by that Iraqi-"American" who's cozy with Tariq Aziz), raked Ritter over the coals for his contradictions & flip-flops....it was masterful work on the part of Asman. I hope a transcript is available, or Fox reruns this in its entirety tonight.

All this, and Netanyahu testifying before congress....it don't get no bettah!!! (On C-Span, there are no interruptions.) I loved it when Bibi asked these bozos.....So let me get this right, some of you don't think we should impose sanctions until AFTER we know for certain Saddam has nuclear weapons?

What makes Ritter such a dangerous paid liar is what could be happening on that ship with the nuclear detection.

There is a very critical thread about the ship that trigger geiger counters and how there are now NEST and SEAL teams on board that ship, at this link:(lSpecial Ops boarding ship to search for Nuclear Material off the NJ shore Fox News Alert | 9/12/02 | Brytani )

This is the grim reality that our President was talking about this morning in his great speech at the UN! It will be worth your time to go there and catch up on what's happening.

OMG! Netanyahu is on NOW. Both Fox and CNN cut him off. Lucky I flipped to C-Span. Biden is giving an interview, probably to pre-emp Bibi.

My guess the regular army of Iraq would surrender immediately, except for the republican guards.

In the good old days you had to load all 1500 replies every time you hit refresh.

Would be pretty tough on us Hobbits and the Neverending Story folks, both around 25K posts these days.

The more a country makes use of multilateral institutions thereby respecting shared values, and accepting the obligations and restraints inherent in those values, the more others will trust and respect it and the stronger its chance to exercise true leadership.

-Kofi Annan

Sure, but Mr. Annan, the chances are already about as strong as can be imagined. There is something honorable about leading by doing. Of course, it depends on whether the act is for good or for evil. Leading by talking is for a debating society.

We don't understand the dynamic here on FR, but it is real -our less informed neighbors and fellow citizens just wanted to see Bush addressing the U.N. in a spirit of fellowship and cooperation. They wanted that base covered before we embark on military endeavors. Is it useless? We know it is! But, the folks out there - good willed Americans watching "American Idol" and lost in their Fantasy Football rosters - still think the U.N. is some moral beacon that should be involved. We're not going to need ANYTHING from the U.N. to execute this mission. Nobody is going to pay attention to the nuances of foreign support after seeing that video of Bush standing up before the World body today. That's what they needed to see. If the American people sign off, the gutless twerps in D.C. will jump on board. When America shows its resolve and success, the twerps in Europe will rush the bandwagon. Bush is playing the game. Tony Blair sees the winner, and is setting himself and the Brits up as the most influential player in the new Europe. Putin is on board, even though he can't openly support the Iraq campaign because of Russian industrial interests there.

Saddam and his regime of brutality are toast. When Saddam is gone, Iran will burn from within. Millions of Iranians have been demonstrating in the streets against the Tehran despots for months. When Iran and Iraq are cooked, the operational tools, financing and protections that only a Nation-State can supply to a worldwide terrorist movement will disappear. Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan will eradicate their terrorist ties and remove destructive individuals. Hezbollah and Hamas will be fiscally defanged. Arafat will hang. We won't need the Saudis for oil anymore. The Chinese will understand that Bush is not to be challenged regarding sacred commitments to Taiwan. Iraq is the catylist for all of this.

Given his negative, ranted reponse to the Bush speech on 9/11, Savage will savage this one too.

"Scott Ritter is a bonofied Mental Case. He is delusional...one very sick puppy." True. I don't know the technical term, but he is delusionally grandiose. He thought he knew more about fighting the Gulf War than Schwartzkopf. He thought he knew more about weapons inspections than UNSCOM, Butler and the State Department. Now he thinks he knows more about national security than the President. Ritter ought to be in a psych ward.

I think the clock just clicked over 16 minutes on Mr. Ritter's moment of fame.

Okay...the million dollar question: What does everyone think the time frame will be for military action? Weeks? Months?

As John Dean said to Richard Nixon 'What an enthralling prospect'.

There's a thread out there someplace for the betting pool.

Personally, I think Bush is working on something to get rid of Saddam personally. Once he's out of the way, Iraq probably collapses.

I.e., no war.
