Iraq would be on the point of making a "significant advertisement" with UNO (diplomats)

Monday September 16, 2002 - 19h10 GMT

BAGHDAD, 16 seven (AFP) - Iraq would be on the point of making a "significant advertisement" with UNO in the next hours, relating to the question of the return of the inspectors in disarmament, one learned Monday from Western diplomatic source in Baghdad.

The advertisement would be made "in a few hours" in New York by the head of the Iraqi diplomacy Naji Sabri, according to the diplomatic source which affirmed that the declaration "in the good direction" would defuse the crisis on the disarmament of Iraq.

The international community multiplied these last days the calls to Iraq so that it authorizes the return of the inspectors in disarmament of UNO in order to avoid an attack which the United States threatens to launch to reverse the Iraqi mode, marked to develop weapons of massive destruction.

Iraqi president Saddam Hussein chaired Monday a meeting common of the direction of the Baas party (to the capacity) and government and examined with high Iraqi persons in charge the American threats for a military offensive against the country, according to official agency INA.

The agency affirmed that the participants in the common meeting "discussed certain political questions of topicality", without more precision.

Saddam Hussein moreover examined Monday afternoon "a series of questions relating to the current political economic situation", during a second meeting in presence in particular of the number two Iraqi Ezzat Ibrahim, the vice-president Taha Yassine Ramadan, the Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Aziz and Latif Nassif Jassem, member of the Council of command of the révolutionla higher leading authority of the country), according to INA.

PREDICTION: They will allow inspectors in -- but to stall. We'll get bogged down in delays. War may ultimate take place...but they will adroitly exploit whatever leeway there is for them to exploit, stalling, delaying, finding excuses every step of the way.

No they won't stall. We aren't accepting the old formula for inspections. We have already demanded the inspectors be backed up with troops this go round. This won't get solved peacefully.

Saddam will use the UN to stall until he has a nuclear missile targeted at Jerusalem.

The UN will be delighted to go along.

Inspectors are only a small part of what GW demanded...

Dont get caught up in the "inspectors hype" GW lined up plenty of other things Iraq had to do.

GW isnt playing politics on this one....he has said we'll go without the Wolrd and he means it.

Baghdad can try a UN two step but it aint gonna make a hill of beans to the President.[ Or me.]

I can just see them, hot-footing across the desert now, trying to stash the uranium, centrifuges, etc. before the inspectors show up. Your basic Chinese (Iraqii) Fire Drill.

The Iraqi ambassador will declare that their regime has no weapons of mass destruction and will prove it by blocking any attempt by the UN to send inspectors into Iraq.

I want to go in there now.
OK. You can go in here now. And in there next week.
No. I don't want to go in here. I want to go in there.
Sure thing. Next week.

Don't worry. We now have a real president in charge who knows his job (unlike the last one, it's not a blow job).

Saddam will say that he will only allow his $500,000 W$ore Ritter to come in and inspect him.

This was predictable. It won't buy him any more time.

Or if he's really Machiavellian, he's going to try to gain the upper hand by being preemptive himself...
