Actually, I think Kofi dislikes Bush about as much as Daschle does. I think Kofi did this on purpose to create a diplomatic problem and internal political problem (with Democrats) for Bush. Kofi is actively trying to appease Sadaam because he wants to pay Bush back for his near-explicit condemnation of the U.N. under Kofi's leadership in his speech last week.

I think Kofi took it very hard.

According to Brit Hume's show tonight, Kofi Annan released the letter to the press BEFORE the White House or the Security Council were notified. I'm spitting at his audacity and the media's acceptance of thinking this will solve everything. Ha.

No, friend, they're not that dumb. They're playing along with Kofi and the appeasers. They're hoping against hope that their true enemy (Bush, not Sadaam) is put into a box by this manuever. They're hoping the French become French again. And they're mostly hoping that this will give the Democrats some ammo in their attempt to delay a Congressional vote.

The press is acting like this because they're hoping that this will become a flanking manuever that will give Daschle's ridiculous position some credibility. To them, this is about Democrats in power in Congress. They couldn't give a squat about Sadaam's threat, because credit for dealing with it will go to Bush. The press hates Bush above all people, including Sadaam. If Sadaam will help them hurt Bush...well..."the enemy of my enemy is my friend".

They're hoping this makes Bush look like a trigger-happy cowboy who's not even as reasonable as Sadaam.

It has a chance...albeit a small one, but they don't have much else as all this was turning into a terrible disaster for Democrats.

Personally...I could live with that, too.

Well, he got his head handed to him last Thursday.....I guess he's still smarting!

I can hardly wait to see the "press conference" where he admits Saddam screwed him.

Advice to Kofi: Do NOT mess with George W. Bush.

Here's an interesting tidbit from The Scrapbook in this week's Weekly Standard.

MANDELA'S DOTAGE?

"Many people say quietly, but they don't have the courage to stand up and say publicly, that when there were white secretary generals you didn't find this question of the United States and Britain going out of the United Nations. But now that you've had black secretary generals like Boutros Boutros-Ghali, like Kofi Annan, they do not respect the United Nations. They have contempt for it. This is not my view, but that is what is being said by many people"--Nelson Mandela, in a Newsweek interview, September 10.

Many people say quietly that Nelson Mandela made a fool of himself with this observation last week. This is not the view of THE SCRAPBOOK, but that is what is being said by many people.

I started listening to Chris Matthews just to hear how he would whine and I was not disappointed. He thinks inspectors should be enough and that Saddam should not have to meet any other conditions. He thinks President Bush was "blind-sided" by Saddam and that now the President is acting like a "cowboy"....why would I ever expect anything more from Chrissy? In truth, I didn't.

I like to check in with Hardball once in a while. Note that he's the only liberal with a pundit show that doesn't immediately die on the vine. Hey, I think he's one helluva punditry show type host and I like his rapid fire delivery. He also manages to insert an editorial within every question he asks.

It was with a bit of trepedation that I tuned into the show tonight. Chris is a bonafide dove, once a member of the Peace Corps don't you know.

It wasn't too bad. He had that weird woman who talks in a monotone what wrote that book. I like her. She's no dummy. The other guy was was a wild-haired I don't know what. Neither one of them put much stock in Saddamn's change of heart. At one point the monotoned lady shouted to Chris that he didn't "listen to what the president said". The president said...read my lips now...regime change. No inspectors, no games, yada yada.

But I had to turn that show off when that outrageous liberal woman, dark hair, pursed lips, began her spiel. This woman epitomizes liberalism. Even liberal Chris was grunting at her outrageous views.

"Restraint has worked well throughout the years," she goes on, idiot woman, "even with Stalin." I, of course, am giving her not one but two obscene gestures as she spoke her drool, then imitating her with a yap-yap-yap motion of my mouth. This while all alone in my kitchen. Finally I had to grab the remote control and get this woman out of my life, out of my sight, out of my mind.

Anyway, hey, I think the White House anticipated this. Heck, even we on this forum would have predicted this had we put our minds together. They have a plan. And I don't think it's to let ole Kofi and Saddamn hobnob in Kofi's cushy UN headquarters, whiling away the time until that last little neutron fits neatly into place and the terrorist cells in America can be alerted to come pick up your dirty nuke.

Who is that liberal hag anyway?

Mandela did make a fool out of himself, but that doesn't mean that Kofi Annan didn't buy into his theory.

You've got a stronger stomach than I have. I can't stand the shouting, and remember that column Mathews wrote about using underhanded means to get elected? Once in a while he'll throw out a seemingly conservative bone (to keep his ratings?) but be assured that ole Chris is a dyed in the wool democrat/liberal.

i don't think that W is going to order a halt to the build up...America is finally flexing its muscle and countries are getting out of the way (note the Saudi change of attitude regarding US use of bases) ...perhaps W will send in weapons inspectors....backed by 40,000 soldiers

When I read that today, I was like, "Gawd, they really do see it everywhere, don't they?" It's shocking, IMO.

Isn't it telling how Matthews (liberals), take joy in Saddams move.

I believe that liberals would side with Hitler, if a Republican were on the other side.

Good point. Bush does not want new inspectors, he wants Saddam out.

President Bush gave them documented proof that Hussein's promises cannot be trusted, yet Kofi (and the press) BELIEVES him THIS time? Fools....all taking the easy line of least resistance while this is just another ploy for delay. 'Guess Daschel WILL be really "concerned" when he sees a mushroom cloud/

Well, what was Bush demanding at the UN then? I thought he was demanding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. If Iraq says we don't have any, and come see, then what? Inspectors seem inevitable foreplay here, whether we like it or not.
