Final counts showed Reno gained 3,402 votes in Miami-Dade, Broward and other counties, not enough to erase the 8,196-vote margin McBride held after the Sept. 10 primary. Unofficially, McBride won by 4,794 votes out of more than 1.3 million votes cast.
McBride had claimed victory Thursday, two days after one of the closest elections in Florida history. He faces Republican Gov. Jeb Bush in the Nov. 5 general election.
McBride, a Tampa lawyer and first-time candidate, emerged from the primary as the top vote-getter, but the race was marred by ballot glitches that brought back memories of the 2000 presidential election.
McBride spent a quiet day Tuesday, going for a morning jog and running errands. He declined to comment to an Associated Press reporter at his home in Thonotosassa, about 15 miles northeast of Tampa. His campaign was planning a statewide tour Wednesday and Thursday, including stops in Miami, Orlando and Tallahassee.
McBride's wife Alex Sink was at the Cactus Club restaurant in downtown Tampa when Reno's speech came on television. Everyone at the bar clapped when the program ended.
``What a gracious person,'' Sink said as she watched Reno. ``She's a wonderful person and a great public servant.''
Unofficial totals showed that McBride had 602,346 votes, or 44.38 percent; Reno had 597,552, or 44.03 percent; and state Sen. Daryl Jones of Miami had 157,104, or 11.57 percent.
Unlike in 2000, when President Bush narrowly defeated Al Gore, a recount will not occur this time as McBride's lead in last week's preliminary total was larger than the half-a-percentage point margin necessary to trigger an automatic statewide recount.
HOW ABOUT THE RECOUNT? THE WAY I COUNT IT ~602,000 + ~598,000 = ~1,200,000 VOTES CAST (PLUS OVER 100,000 FOR THE 3RD CANDIDATE. SO IF YOU SAY 1,200,000 X 0.5% = 6,000. 6,000 - 4,794 =1206 IT WOULD APPEAR THAT MCBRIDE IS 1206 SHORT AND THEREFORE TRIGGERS AN AUTOMATIC STATEWIDE RECOUNT. CAN RENO'S CONCESSION STOP THE AUTOMATIC RECOUNT OR MUST IT PROCEDE?
I PREDICTED THE RECOUNT LAST WEEK HERE AND ALMOST HIT THESE NUMBERS.
Reno's lawyers have said they will not sue to force a recount or otherwise challenge the results. Bush congratulated McBride in a statement and said he hoped ``there will be a real focus on issues for the next seven weeks.''
Alex Sink? No comment.
...until he realized he still has to beat Jeb...Reno was an easy victory compared to November...
SNIPPETTE>>>> Janet Reno ( news - web sites) conceded the Democratic nomination for governor to Bill McBride on Tuesday a full week after Florida's bungled primary after final vote counts showed him narrowly defeating the former attorney general.
The final but still unofficial count had the Tampa lawyer and political newcomer winning by about 4,800 votes out of more than 1.3 million cast. McBride will face Republican Gov. Jeb Bush in November.
Reno conceded Tuesday afternoon. She said she told McBride "he was going to be a great governor."
"I want to do everything that I possibly can to see that he gets elected," she said.
This means that the DUMS have learned all they need to know about how to DEFEAT these electronic machines. They have the flash ROM cards figured out, will have them DUPLICATED AND READY to put into the "mix" when they are voting for the Real Thing in NOVEMBER!!
Be afwaid, be vewy, vewy afwaid." E. Fudd....
GRRRRRollin'
Another electrifying and dynamic figure ala the rotund, profusely, sweating McBribe, Rossin is sure to capture the geriatric vote and quicken the pulse of every blue haired old lady between Pensacola and Key West.
These characters only win by stealing the general election. This election needs to be monitored by an outside independent organization in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
Thanks -- the image of this tub of lard jogging is the best laugh I've had all day. If Reno goes on the stump for him, maybe he can jog alongside her lil' red pickup truck -- great photo op!
I guess she means that he was going to be a good governor until he loses the election.
Deadline "A": Deadline for unofficial filing of total votes. If the unofficial vote count shows less than a 5% separation between candidates, an automatic recount ensues. This deadline passed last week.
Deadline "B": Deadline for filing certified results. No automatic recount ensues, no matter how close the candidates' results. This deadline was today
Therefore, all you have to do to rig the election is to file incorrect results by the unofficial deadline and no automatic recount is triggered
Clever? Welcome to Florida politics
Jackboot Janet spent her entire eight years as Attorney General bashing guns and gun owners - and made a point of making herself the most-antigun Attorney General in U.S. history. She was appointed by the most-antigun regime ever to occupy the WhoreHouse. Her appointment was demanded by the antigun extremist Co-president Hitlery.
And Jackboot Janet immediately thereafter lost the Democreep primary for governor in her home state to a nobody.
Jackboot Janet's "girlfriend" - the issue Florida's Democreep Party fears!
Yeah, but given the chance, she'd haul your ass into the supreme court if the vote had been closer.
What world does Alex live in?
600,000 voted for that nazi bitch!
