Is sci-fi/fantasy author L.E. Modesitt Jr. a Republican?
Posted on 09/19/2002 8:20:48 PM PDT by Jason Kauppinen
In the inside of one of L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s works of fiction (The Octagonal Raven) it mentions that he was legislative assistant for Congressman Bill Armstrong during the 80's.... so is it a good bet that he's a Republican?

Who cares? Can he write a good story? That's the only use I have for an author.

Some scifi/Rep trivia which does not answer your question...
Quite a number of sci-fi authors are republicans (or libs). For example, essentially everyone published by Baen (Weber, Flint, Ringo, etc) is; the exception is Stirling and judging by the messages on the Baen forum this is somewhat related to him being banned by Baen.
And as for good (pro-Rep, of course) writing: O.S.Card's indictment of Clinton as well as his current series of articles on WoT are just as good as his novels... actually, it is kind of stuff FR should echo. Sorry, no data on Modesitt.

Read 'The Green Progression' wherein the eco-freaks are funded by the KGB. It's by Modesitt and Levinson.

Yeah, i've been a big fan of Card's for many years and was pleasantly surprised to see him echo many of my own thoughts on his website. He's written some great pieces on not only Clinton but also on som of the junk coming out of Hollywood (such as blasting Amistad and Pleasantville).

Thats a curious thing for his book jacket to say, if we're talking about Bill Armstrong of Colorado, he was in the US Senate from 1978 to 1990. I don't think he was ever a Congressman (well technically, senators are member of Congress, but so far as I know, they are never called congressman).
Bill Armstrong was a conservative Republican (and by all accounts, a good guy) who consistenly canceled out the vote of the other Colorado senator-- Gary Hart.

Yeap, his movie and other comments are very interesting (he did blast some movies I liked, but generally it is hard to disagree). But imho the best (guess this only means current) stuff is on
www.ornery.org--his other website...

*shrugs* That's what it says. And yes, I think that's the Senator that the book jacket is referring to.
