[history]
For George Bush, there's nothing like a good ol' war to rally the folks, and damn the consequences, writes Jack Balkin.
When George Bush was governor of Texas, his basic strategy was to stake out a position and refuse to budge, hoping to bully others into acquiescing.
Only when he met strong opposition did he back down and compromise. We are seeing the same strategy in his policy over Iraq. In the past weeks, Bush has attempted to bully the United Nations and now Congress into allowing him to attack Iraq and depose its leader. He is likely to get his way.

KEYWORDS: bush; iraq; saddam
First we had people like Chomsky, Zinn, and Said corrupting our youth. Looks like we can add Balkin to the "Academic Axis of Evil".

Bush said he'd get Osama.
Considering that track record, Saddam will live a long life.

...his basic strategy was to stake out a position and refuse to budge, hoping to bully others into acquiescing. In the real world this is interpreted as:
1) Observe at the situation.
2) Decide what is the right thing to do.
3) Do it.
Liberals are in such a quandary over this.

The title reveals this useful (to the marxists) idiot's mindset. While I think it's valid to debate the issue of policies toward Iraq, the premise that Bush is only addressing the Iraq issue to bump his poll numbers is crazy.

You dreamed you saw Osama last night,
Alive as you and me
Says you "But Osama, you're long dead"
"I never died" says he.

Osama is pink, rotting paste in some dusty, hermetically sealed by a rather large explosion, cave in Tora Bora. You can make book on that.

a single man armed with weapons of mass destruction, manifesting an aggressive, bullyinga cautious but not timid attitude. A "bullying attitude" best describes Clinton: arrogant in safety, timid (e.g., Black Hawk Down) in hazzard.

I didn't even notice you had put John as his name. I found the picture by doing a search on "Balkin and Yale."

I'm confused by Balkin's use of the term righteous as if it were bad to be righteous.
From the Webster dictionary search on ref desk:
righteous
1 : acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin 2 a : morally right or justifiable b : arising from an outraged sense of justice or morality
3 slang : GENUINE, GOOD
synonym see MORAL
- righ·teous·ly adverb
- righ·teous·ness noun
It's obvious that being righteous is a good thing.
Maybe Balkin doesn't like good people or maybe he meant to say Bush is "self-righteous" (or maybe he's trying to deconstruct our language.)

Could you take that picture and print it on a roll of toilet paper? I'm running out of torn-up Liberal newspapers.

Y'know, if we had simply nuked all the terrorist states a few days after 9/11, we'd not have to listen to this crapola.
