As reported here yesterday, the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic held a counter-demonstration of the anti-capitalist, America-hating leftists holding a rally and march ostensibly against the World Bank and IMF.
As we made clear to reporters and the demonstrators, we were not there to support the World Bank and IMF, we were there to show support for capitalism, private property rights, freedom and America.
TgslTakoma kept busy with her digital camera yesterday, so I'll be posting plenty of photo links on this thread.
Here's a brief synopsis of the day: We started gathering at 11 a.m. on the northwest corner of the intersection of 15th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW by the Washington Monument, close to the rally site at the Sylvan Theater. The U.S. Park Police asked us to move across the street to the southeast corner. One of the officers in charge worked with us in the permit application process for the Patriots Rally for America last April so she was familiar with our restraint in the face of surly leftists and had no problem with our counter-demonstration.
Once across the street, the Park Police established a zone for us to demonstrate in by parking motorcycles on the edge of the sidewalk and police tape strung up on our south and east. Initially, reporters and folks who wanted to join us were allowed to enter, but as more leftists came by and started arguing with us, the zone was sealed and noone could enter.
There was only one moment when things got dicey. An angry leftist got in the face of Sauropod and went chest-to-chest with him. The Park Police intervened immediately to separate them and officers on horseback and motorcycles came from out of nowhere to create a barrier between the two camps and prevent the situation from getting out of control.
The anti-capitalist march, led by musician Michelle Shocked who sang from the back of a truck, started an hour late. It passed us by in 15 minutes. We were pleasantly stunned at the small number of marchers.
All week we had heard that ten to twenty thousand would be out on Saturday, at best they had three thousand people. It's my opinion that the attacks of September 11 made alot of younger people who like to play radical face reality and wise up.
We ended our demonstration around 3 :30 p.m. with cheers for the Park Police for a job well done of keeping the peace while ensuring both side's rights were protected.
A side note: the D.C. Chapter is planning to hold a rally at the Washington Monument on Saturday, October 26 to counter the IAC-A.N.S.W.E.R. anti-war demonstration in D.C. that day. Look for an announcement soon.

They're pleased with themselves. They're young; maybe they'll regret their behavior when they grow up.
Later, I did an interview with WTOP-AM from D.C. I heard bits of it last night during their on-the-hour and half-hour headline reports. I was identified in the reports as being with the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic.
Thanks, though.
