“The Man Who Knew” is the story of an FBI agent who felt the threat of Al Qaeda to America since 1995. His name was John P. O'Neill, and long before the world knew about Osama bin Laden, Agent O'Neill was obsessed with him. He warned his superiors at FBI headquarters of the growing threat, but headquarters thought O'Neill was too much of a maverick, and they didn't listen to him. In the summer of 2001, O'Neill was finally run out of the FBI. He took a new job -- as head of security at the World Trade Center, where he died on Sept. 11.

This documentary painstakingly follows O'Neill's investigation of Al Qaeda, his personal crises, and his struggles inside the FBI bureaucracy, In the end, "The Man Who Knew" is an investigation of the internal power struggle at the heart of the FBI's failure on Sept. 11, but for those of us who have come to know Agent O'Neill in the course of making this program, it is also a journey into the heartbreaking irony of his death.

It is false that this individual must "work for the left." Independent film makers often work only for themselves. PBS may have been the highest bidder for the work.

FC pay no attention to the neanderthals, it is good to see FReepers doing constructive things and insinuating themselves into the media and other positions of influence.
Those who love to piss in the punchbowl are generally not useful for much else.

I see no evidence that FilmCutter is an indy. He/she list pbs/frontline as their homepage. Frontline is a propaganda tool for the left. They often do great work, but their slant is to the progressive side!

Filmcutter MAY be a conservative and I hope he/she is! But FilmCutter still works for a tax funded propaganda machine.

One of my friends spent his adult life editing hollywood films and he and his wife are two of the most conservative, Republicans I know.

PBS has done outstanding documentaries on the threat of al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. Their work going back to the late nineties blows the doors off anything else I've seen. Check out the PBS Frontline web site for the best backgrounder on Saddam Hussein on the web.

PBS has aired some excellent documentaries. During the Clinton era they did an expose of the Lums that should have killed Clinton's political career, but everyone, including FR, ignored it.

Agree totally. I hope that filmcutter is as conservative as they come. I'm sure that some conservatives work for PBS/NPR. It's a lot of work 'cause they have to keep a lot profile.

Note that filmcutter hasn't said one way or another. In fact although a member for 2 years...there are no other post that pop up when you do a search. Perhaps a fault of the search function? Or is filmcutter just the lurker type? Or a mole?

Let's hope for filmcutter being a conservative in a tough work enviroment.

Very cool. I usually give a heads-up to my cousin in Dallas to check out the FrontLine
documentaries.
FrontLine and American Experience are just about the best thing on PBS.

I really like the FrontLine episodes of "Gunning For Sadaam" and the two hour special
simply titles "Muslims".
I was suprised at how honest (=not politically-correct) the "Muslims" special was...
especially coming from PBS.

I missed that one...
But I saw the one that FrontLine did on the Mike Espy corruption case, interviewing
the independent prosecutor.

That one should have set off plenty of alarm bells too!

FrontLine is good enough it should just be picked up by FOX (FOX News).
