WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Trade Commission has decided not to take action against a television advertising campaign for California cheese that depicts dairy cows living in the Golden State's green pastures.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had asked the FTC to order an end to the ads, claiming most California dairy cows live in filthy, grassless lots where they are forced to give too much milk and separated from their calves too soon.

Nonsense. Wisconsin cows are happier than Kalifornistan ones.

I dunno - any cow that produces cheese has got to be a moose.

The humorous ads, which feature cows that talk,To me, at least, this would be a tip-off that the ad is not to be taken literally.

A California cow......
Looks happy to me.

I live not too far from a dairy farming area.. and I've seen acres of lush green pastureland for the cows.. I don't know what PETA is smoking (crack I would imagine), but I do know it causes them to lie about things just to get public sympathy.

I remember taking Biology 101 and 102 my freshman year in college. In Biology 102 lab we examined the brains of different animals, namely a cow. It was a very large brain, but the professor explained to us that its not necessarily the size of the brain that influences intelligence. It is the amount of convolutions(sp) in the brain. The convolutions are basically what makes the "spagetti" look of the brain. The more convolutions, the more intelligence. Well guess what, the big cow brain was almost completely smooth, hardly any convolutions. Needless to say, cows are one of the dumbest animals in the entire animal kingdom. They have no intelligence at all, in my somewhat science-based opinion.

Good evening! I am a cow. And I'm happy! Can't you see that I'm happy!
To: HiTech RedNeck
California cows are definitely happier. The commercials show it; especially with regard to Wisconsin cows which have been transplanted here.
On the serious side, I hope we don't get more of these false advertising claims when we have cases involving anthropomorphised animals, such as talking cows. Or when PETA thinks it can ascertain what constitutes a happy cow.
To: NormsRevenge
I wish people would quit taking PETA so seriously, as if they have anything relevant, or sane, to say. Tell them to get lost!

The amusing thing is that those commercials are true.
I've seen hillside pastures in Sonoma and Marin counties (not even 45 minutes from my place in SF) that look exactly like those commericals.
Hundreds of free-range dairy cows graze there. Thousands and thousands of acres of grazing cows on the best property that California has to offer.

California cows were happy until PETA pi$$ed 'em off.

Needless to say, cows are one of the dumbest animals in the entire animal kingdom Well, you know what "they" say. Ignorance is bliss. So the logical conclusion from your observation is that cows are happy, regardless of where they come from, isn't it? Of course, if the ads are true, that CA cows are happier, than we could also conclude that California cows are dumber than the general cow population.

I've seen hillside pastures in Sonoma and Marin counties (not even 45 minutes from my place in SF) that look exactly like those commericals. Yeah, maybe in April. By June those hills are brown. Trust me, I'm a 40 year native.
The worst place to be a cow is in the Central Valley off the I-5. As you go through Kettlemen, you need to hit the re-circulate button in the car due to the stench. They must have 1,000s of cows all stacked together. However, I don't think they are dairy cows - I'm pretty sure they're livestock.
That being said, you can get a mighty fine steak right down the road at Harris Ranch.

In the hot weather, cows have access to shade, fans and misters. ?! They encourage this brand of "animal husbandry" in California?

Philosopher Jeremy Bentham, who obviously had many more convolutions in his brain than you, said regarding animals, "The question is not, "Can they reason"? or "Can they speak"? but "Can they suffer"?
I have been around cows enough to know that they are more than intelligent enough to suffer.

OH PLEASE!! PETA is one of these organizations whose actions end up turning off a LOT of people to their cause with totally flippant lawsuits that makes you want to do this to them:
Sheesh.
To: NormsRevenge
If the "silver bullet doesn't slow you down" how the hell could a few deceptive milk adds cause much of a stir.
