Q. Which witness reported the sniper as being white(vanity)
Posted on 10/17/2002 2:14:03 PM PDT by newsperson999
Is that one that was discredited today? I thought that person reported seeing a cream astro van, an AK-47, and reported the sniper as being white. The other witnesses reported seeing a "olive skin man"...
CNN was inplying that the sniper isn't middle eastren now because this witness was dicredited and may even be charged with fraud. But I thought he was the one that reported seeing a whire person? I may be wrong
anyone have any info on this?

I'm confused too, I'm stuck here in this cubicle, and have to rely on FR for my news. Several threads refer to a wintess being discredited, but I haven't been able to determine for sure which one.

I took it to be the one that was in the garage...closest to the person. That is my understanding from watching CNN over the past few minutes

The middle eastern or dark skinned (Hispanic)report was also mentioned at earlier shooting(s). This isn't the first report, eroneous or not.

The way I see it, this is about politics.
If the shooter turns out to be a gun owner gone psycho, with a gun he bought from a legal dealer, and is stopped by a Maryland cop, Townsend wins the election.
If it turns out that the shooter is an Arab, with a gun that was smuggled in from Eastern Europe, and is stopped by a carry permit holder, then Townsend loses.
And ditto for every other pro-gun-control candidate, across the country.
So no matter what the evidence, if it points to a middle-easterner, we won't hear it, and we won't catch him, until after the election.

Fox must be lurking again..they just reported that the discredited one reported seeing a dark skinned man

Moose said there was no credence to the witness' description of the cream-colored van with a burned-out rear taillight. And while Moose did not give the witness' exact description of the shooter, he chastised reporters for running reports that variously described the gunman as dark-skinned, olive-skinned, Middle Eastern or Hispanic.
"When we have people from the media interviewing witnesses and publishing reports, we get confusion," Moose said. "We get this noise ... out there that gives people tunnel vision and makes them focus in on things that are not appropriate. ... We would like to be able to do our job."

California discovered with those (xxx, can't remember name) alerts where information about child abductions are broadcast everywhere instantly, that getting as much news out in a hurry catches bad guys right quick.
This idiot Moose has the opposite idea. Keep everything tight as possible until a cop with the right information can make a bust and be a hero.
Quite obviously, they don't want this guy found. And it looks like Moose is a rabid anti-profiling guy, who puts political correctness ahead of public safety.

I don't see why the media should NOT report what the sniper looks like, or reports of what he might look like according to purported witnesses.
And I wish someone would point out that the man who claimed to see a specific weapon is NOT the same guy as the man who "got a good look" at two fellows in a van in a hurry, mad because his truck was in the way.

Moose's conference smelled. They have enough to know what the perps look like - just won't admit it. FRom a UK paper: Builder Robert Young was one of three people who saw the suspect after FBI worker Linda Franklin, 47, was gunned down outside a shopping mall six miles from Washington. Mr Young said he heard a muffled gunshot. As he backed his truck out of his parking spot a white Chevrolet van with two men inside tried to turn into his lane. He said the driver appeared very agitated to find his way blocked and instead drove towards a nearby restaurant and vanished. "I got a good look at the guy," he said, describing him as short, slight build and looking Middle Eastern. "He seemed to be excessively irritated because he couldn't pull into my lane. I thought this fool was going to want to get out of the van, but he didn't. He kept on going."
Another witness said the sniper, dubbed the Thriller Killer, used a Kalashnikov AK-47 - a lethal rifle favoured by the IRA - in the latest killing. He saw the man hold the gun to his shoulder, aim, fire then escape in a van. Why won't they make a composite based on Robert Youngs description?
He Is NOT the discredited witness!!!

The discredited witness was the "olive-skinned man" witness.

No, no, no!
You all have it wrong. It was a "cream-colored suspect' and an 'olive-hued' AK-74...
Is it moose season yet?

Is it moose season yet? If the shooter turns out to be anything but a white right wing wacko, it will soon be.
