He is reasonably upfront about the whole thing. My recollection is that he was registered as a Dem until a few months before his election.
Bloomberg politically was a little better than the goon he ran against, but a Republican ... not really.

I can only take partial credit for the RODHAM! poster. Slyfox sent me the original Rodan poster, and the idea to change it to RODHAM. I just did the work.
