Some people believe if you don't dwell on a thing, it will go away. That had long been Shirley Rogers' way. For years, Rogers tried to forget her parents' deaths, which were ghastly -- they died at the Coliseum, at the ice show.

Everybody remembers where they were when the President was shot and killed, but it was particularly hard for Hoosiers who had to endure this tragedy barely three weeks previous. I was in 6th grade, and my grandma was supposed to go that night but couldn't arrange a ride. She was so disappointed, she always enjoyed Holiday on Ice nearly every single year. I remember the paper the next day - All Saints' Day - and the picture of all those bodies laid out on the ice. We lived just fifteen miles from there, and I can remember feeling just so, so bad about it - it was haunting. Go to the source URL to see a pic, I was not able to drag it in. http://www.indystar.com/article.php?iceshow12.html

I don't remember this one, although I was 70 miles away in richmond at the time. I remember the Richmond explosion in 1968 that leveled a city block. I was in Vietnam at the time, but it rated a full page photo in Stars and Stripes. I guess both of these events got swallowed up in the news by assassinations.
