The FBI sent an emergency bulletin to law enforcement agencies nationwide last night, warning that al-Qaeda is planning a "spectacular" terrorist attack in the U.S. The FBI bulletin comes on the heels of a Justice Dept. report that U.S. intelligence intercepts have detected the highest "chatter" among terrorist targets since Sept. 11.
The FBI warned law enforcement agencies: "Sources suggest Al Qaeda may favor spectacular attacks that meet several criteria: high symbolic value, mass casualties, severe damage to the U.S. economy and maximum psychological trauma."
The FBI report notes likely targets: commercial aviation, petroleum plants, nuclear-related facilities, and national landmarks.
A number of recent developments have alarmed federal authorities, including a tape recording that surfaced purporting to offer a message from bin Laden. Some intelligence experts believe it may have contained a secret code to initiate attacks.
Fox News also reports that "in recent weeks, the FBI has issued warnings about possible attacks on U.S. railroads and on the energy industry, as well as a more general warning about heightened risk during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which started Wednesday and ends Dec. 5."

You have to wonder - has the FBI seen the transcript of the Al Jazeera inteview with that muslim who purports that al Qaeda has hidden 7 nukes in American cities and is planning to destroy us from the inside out in conjunction with biological air-dispersed weapons from within the heartland? IMHO the likelihood of this is low to non-existent, but why is the FBI exuding such fear? Are the FAST teams up and about? Makes you wonder.

I don't think that anyone doubts that the terrorists are "planning" attacks. I want to know whether they are capable of carrying them out. I also want to know what our Government agencies are doing, without crossing the politically correct lines, to destroy these terrorists.
Until we close our borders and round up all suspects already here we are spinning our wheels in any anti terrorist activity.

Yes, but we need to keep our borders and ports open so that our economy keeps thriving. Never mind that the war on terror is driving Al Qaeda to the United States for we probably have less domestic security than most nations in the world. These terrorists are not fools, they know where the safest and less secure places on earth are.

If I truly wanted to commit a "spectacular" attack, I would attack the Monday night football game.
You are guaranteed to have a large death toll if you were to replicate the 9/11 approach, and millions more would see the event live on television. It wouldn't be too hard for them to just buy a plane instead of hijacking one.
If the terrorist are as smart as some think, they wouldn't go after things like most national monuments, because so many Americans are apathetic about our history.

ban islam in America and deport ALL MUSLIMS NOW! You don't see a Constitutional obstacle to that?

I'm sure they have, and like most people they quickly concluded it was a hoax (as the Asia Times has now admitted).

Not if you look at islam as an idiology and not a religion.
To: willingtodie
Cool. Then it's constitutional to ban liberal ideology and eject all Democrats from the country.

IMHO the likelihood of this is low to non-existent, but why is the FBI exuding such fear? I think I know. Remember all the reports about "George knew" after 9-11-2001. They did have reports that there would be a terrorist attack but of course no way of knowing how, when or where and no alerts were put out. Then the media wanted to know everything so guess what? We are getting everything.
