Bob Dornan claimed that illegal immigration cost him the election.

Our government does not work within the system.

Frankly, I don't understand how trying to uphold and defend the Constitution of this nation can be construed to be an extremist event by anybody," Bodine said. Unfortunately, we do question government," he added

AMEN!!!

Bob Dornan is full of it. He simply FORGOT that he had to campaign hard in his district until it was too late.

An investigation turned up alot of illegally cast votes but supposedly not enough to invalidate the election. Hmmm who should I trust.

There was a great article on the Articles vs. the Constitution here a couple months ago.

Nice. Too bad I missed it when it was fresh. One interesting bit of trivia from the era of the Articles is that the infamous and much-misunderstood three-fifths clause had its genesis back then, as a tax clause (proposed by the northern states and rejected by the south). The way it's tought today you'd think the founders sat around debating the relative worth of a negro.

So if the IRS should go after tax protesters would you support them going after illegal immigrants also? Do you think the IRS can clean up the immigration problem? Of course the IRS is more likely to go after someone who is actually trying to comply with the law than anyone else.

Given that the investigation was done by the Republican-controlled Orange County Registrar of Voters, and found all of 18 illegal votes, I'd have to go with my original thesis.

Sorry, bubba. Dornan got a little too full of himself, and paid the price tag. BTW, Dornan lost by 984 votes.

Like I said, he had a Democratic district (just about the only Democrat district in Orange County). A Republican has to WORK at staying elected in that neck of the woods.

Umm...isn't an income tax part of the Constitution? If this guy wants to restore the Constitution to it's founding date (1787, obviously) he wouldn't have a Constitutional right to bear arms, because there would be no Bill of Rights and no 2nd amendment. The Bill of Rights is (are?) amendments just like the 16th.

In 1996 they found more than 700 illegally cast ballots.

The Republicans who dont want to talk about illegal immigration lead the investigation?

Source, please. The official investigation found a grand total of 18 votes cast by non-citizens--and they were looking very hard.

The Republicans who dont want to talk about illegal immigration lead the investigation?

Gosh, you just don't like finding out that your hero made a bad decision, do you?

There was a joke going around the district in March that suggested sticking Bob Dornan's picture on milk cartons.

"If I'm recalling my history correctly, that is."

Not to mention that great liberator A. Lincoln who at the Great Wall of China coined that immortal phrase... "but I hate going to the theater?"

861(a)(3) lays out the definition of "personal services" as an "item" of income, not a "source" of income. The income tax is an excise tax on income-producing activities, but Congress has no power to regulate matters outside of its Constitutional limits - this is why every gun control law has an element of interstate commerce. And...
Grant the validity of this law, and all that Congress would need to do, hereafter, in seeking to take over to its control any one of the great number of subjects of public interest, jurisdiction of which the states have never parted with, and which are reserved to them by the Tenth Amendment, would be to enact a detailed measure of complete regulation of the subject and enforce it by a socalled tax upon departures from it. To give such magic to the word 'tax' would be to break down all constitutional limitation of the powers of Congress and completely wipe out the sovereignty of the states."
[Bailey v. Drexel Furniture Co., 259 U.S. 20 (1922)]
Congress does not have the power to tax something that it has no jurisdiction to regulate, and intrastate commerce is one of those areas.

That is because I brought up the 1996 election and you are probably talking the more recent one. I think the republicans who dont want to talk about illegal immigration decided not to find much to talk about.

I guess amnesties mean that illegal immigration had no effect. Would you also support amnesties for tax protestors every few years?

Dornan is not my hero. I'm not from California. I only know of him from Rush's show where I thought he seemed like a good guy.

Wrong. Bob Dornan's seat was in a majority Democrat district. He had to campaign hard every two years to get re-elected. He decided to run for President, stayed in the race well after it was clear Bob Dole was going to win the nomination, and ignored his Congressional district until it was too late.

You conveniently ignored the portion of my statement where I wrote "in part". I know for a fact that conservatives were up in arms over Dornan's statement about the National Guard. To assume there was no impact in a close election seems unreasonable.

As for the rest of your post: CP was referring to the groups that call themselves "militias," not the militia at large--and you knew exactly what he was referring to, as well.

I know exactly what he was referring to. I also know that once the Clinton media spin on the militia began, most so-called "defenders of the Constitution" were intimidated into silence, ignoring their duty to defend the concept of militia given to us by the Founding Fathers. Even Pitcavage admitted that, according to James Madison in the Federalist Papers, the militia consists of every adult male physically able to serve. Too bad he, like most leftists, believes in a "living Constitution", changable by whim, and no longer subject to the foundation laid by the Father of the Constitution.

BTW, I'll bet you can't explain why these so-called "militias" are grossly violating the Constitution.

For some, like the Freemen, I can. But others I cannot. Perhaps you can enlighten us.

No, we're talking about the same election--the one where Dornan got thrown out, in 1996. They found 18 illegal votes after Dornan threw a hissy-fit about illegal immigrants allegedly voting en masse.

I think the republicans who dont want to talk about illegal immigration decided not to find much to talk about.

I think you're a Sore/Loserman. Democrat majority district + candidate off on a zero-chance Presidential bid = lose the seat. It's really that simple.

I guess amnesties mean that illegal immigration had no effect. Would you also support amnesties for tax protestors every few years?

On the one hand, you want the border enforced. On the other hand, you're not willing to pay for it--because it will be expensive as hell sticking lots of bodies down there.
