Congress has voted to establish a "living memorial" to the late Sen. Paul Wellstone and his wife through the creation of an immigrant community center in St. Paul, Minn.
"Paul, this is our first step toward finishing your work," said the bill's sponsor, Sen. Dean Barkley, an independent from Minnesota who is filling out the term of Wellstone, a Democrat.
The Senate approved the measure by a voice vote Thursday and the House followed suit early Friday as one of its last acts before adjourning for the year.
The legislation authorizes $10 million in federal funds toward a $25 million "Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building." It would be part of Neighborhood House, a century-old social service agency for immigrants.
Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn., said the legislation was a fitting tribute to Wellstone's "undying compassion" for new Americans.
The Wellstones were killed in a plane crash last month along with their 33-year-old daughter, Marcia Wellstone Markuson, and five others.
Neighborhood House already has a $5.5 million commitment from the city of St. Paul; it hopes to raise the remaining $10 million from the state and private sources next year.

Oh, brother. I have to wonder; did anyone dare to speak against this? Of course not. One can only be satisfied that it stopped at $10M.

Are we to do this after every congressional member dies?

Congress approves 'living memorial' to Wellstone
Does this mean they are going to bronze Mondale (who was Wellstone's living memorial) like baby shoes?

Again, bureaucrats spending the people's money without first asking.

Personally I'd have voted for bronzing Fritz Mondale and sticking him in a city park as a tribute to Wellstone. Great minds think alike.

No, it's going to be respectful, tasteful, maybe a tape loop of Rick Kahn's eulogy.

"LIVING MEMORIAL"??
Oh, I thought the senators were taking up a collection for a dogwood tree, not that we taxpayers got stiffed for $10,000,000.00.

"Ths Soul of the Senate", according to the soon to be Senate Minority Leader, already has a living memorial to his socialist principles.
You can visit it any time you want (liberals, please take note and board the first available plane):

This is great! You'll have the "Eternal Spigot," a beer tap that nevers dries up in recognition of "The" party. There will be a special area for the hookers (and, they hope to make this a major hooker attraction center) so that they can "feel" right about their work but not conduct it there. The Commie reading room will be a special quiet library. There will be atradition that everyone, while in the building, will be refered to as "comrade." There will be an area to encourage neighborhood females to achieve and over the door will be carved "Hillary Did It!"
Of course, dope will be for sale. It will be a memorial to democrat principles and will also serve as the symbol of Republican appreciation for those democrat principles. It will allow future generations to enjoy the spirit of the "Hooray, Wellstone is Dead" party that did so much for us all.

You can be so generous that way.

I thought Wellstoneapalooza was a wonderful "living tribute."
They should give a microphone and a crowd to his sons a week before every election day.

A bronzed cow paddy would have been sufficient.

Wouldn't it be better to establish a partial-birth abortion clinic in his name for ole Paulie ? Only Babs Boxer did more to keep PBA going...

I wonder if the immigrants are "undocumented"? Documented, undocumented, it doesn't matter, as long as they vote Democrat. </smirk>
By the way, the article says this "living memorial" is supposed to have 2 gyms. That is where illegal immigrants Mohamed and Malvo spent the majority of their "homeless" time in between sniper shootings. It's all logical, isn't it?
