From 'Bombingham' to Bush: How Condoleezza Rice fulfilled King's dream
The Washington Times ^ | November 19, 2002 | Arnold Beichman

Who would have predicted in 1954, the year of the Supreme Court's landmark Brown vs. Board of Education decision, that in less than half a century two distinguished black Americans (and one of them a woman at that) would be sharing foreign policy decision-making with the president of the United States? Perhaps Martin Luther King might have included such a prophecy in his "I Have a Dream" oration.

At 48, Miss Rice has reached a peak in a career which, paradoxically, has just begun. She is already being talked about as a presidential candidate in 2008 against Hillary Clinton, 55. I can hardly wait.

Rice couldn't "connect the dots" prior to 9/11.

She's useless!

Is anyone else noticing the barrage of public relations releases about Condi Rice? Geez, one would think she is considering running for public office. Oh -- she is!

Sorry but if Rice runs against Hillary she will lose. We need a strong male candidate. Condoleeza is a wonderful intelligent person but would be smashed by Hillary if she ran. Hillary is hated that is for sure but if she ran against another woman she would win hands down!!!

I think you are daft.

Rice would clobber Hillary. No one in politics is more hated, and Rice only would need 20% of the Black vote to win if every other Democrat voted for Hillary.

Rice is a lot smarter than you seem think, but she is currently not a viable presidential candidate. She's never been elected to any office.

Monday Morning Quarterbacks can always "connect the dots" after the fact.

Tell me which person, Republican, Democrat or Independent, could have predicted which Muslims in America would board which particular airline flight with that particular plan on that particular day.

If I were Emperor of the United States and trashed the U.S. Constitution, I could have prevented the attack by rounding up every Muslim in the United States and either deporting them or locking them up in detention camps.

Short of that, how could you have prevented 9/11?

Even simple ethnic profiling at security or at the flight schools would have raised cries of "Police State" from your Democrast friends and you, Tuco-bad, would be the first one to throw out those charges:

"Innocent Muslims Persecuted by Republican Police State Just Because They Want to Learn to Fly!!!!

What dots, exactly, did you want Rice to connect?

Not sure what her input is now, but she sure did fail the American people on 9/11.

Keeping Rice in her post is equivalent to keeping Admiral Kimmel and General Short in their posts after Pearl Harbor.

The CIA had info, the FBI had info - at least two dots to connect.

BTW - prior to 9/11 the government was on a heighted alert because of significant threats, nobody bothered to ensure the airlines were increasing security.

I don't know why you pinged me....I am sure I did have something to say about your post in there...but I am not searching 400 posts for it. I did however, immediately locate your comment that probably set us girls off on the first page:

I can't. Call it my male ego, but women in politics don't belong. I know this is not going to sit right with my fellow female Freepers, but, watching them in debate, "Gotta talk with their hands", seeing how they are motivated, watching how they vote...all of it. Tells me, they are a waste of space in DC. Granted, there is a lotta wasted sperm on the male side too. But, feelings have no place in government. And there is a lot of legislation being passed on feelings.

Go ahead and let the stones fly. I say the Emporer has no cloths!!

Keeping Rice in her post is equivalent to keeping Admiral Kimmel and General Short in their posts after Pearl Harbor.

Sorry, but that comparison is just plain asinine. There is simply no way anyone could have anticipated the 9/11 attack. The Pearl Harbor attack was carried out by a conspicuously built navy representing a nation that was carrying out a war of aggression in the Pacific. As our entire Pacific Fleet was operating out of Pearl Harbor, an argument can be made that more vigilance was required in the neighborhood. And there was even precedent for Pearl Harbor. The UK carried out the same attack against the Italian navy two years earlier. Meanwhile, nobody was complaining about airport security measures in this country, and placing anit-aircraft batteries at every national landmark (the only thing that would have thwarted the airborn terrorists) would have been comletely impractical. Again, go ahead and play armchair quarterback if it helps your ego somehow. But I dare you to present a single person who looked at cryptic reports that arabs were taking flight lessons and shouted "oh my God, they're going to crash into the World Trade Center!" Give the terrorists their due. The came up with a unique and diabolical plan, and carried it off. Now, once again, what, specifically, is Ms. Rice doing today that you would do differently?

There was the female FBI agent in Arizona who alerted the FBI headquaters.

There was the pilot instructor (retired Air Force pilot) who alerted the FBI in Minnesota, which in turn alerted FBI headquaters.

There was the CIA who was tailing one of the 9/11 hijackers until he entered the U.S.

Oh yes - there was a commerical jet that was hijacked a few years ago and landed at Marseille enroute to flying into the Eiffel Tower (French SWAT team overwhelmed the hijackers).

Nothing like this had ever come close to happening in this country, and there was no reason to think that it would. Even after 9/11, a huge percentage of the population is complaining about heightened security measures. Are you foolish enough to think that people would have blandly accepted them last summer? Get real! Nobody came close to anticipating the 9/11 attack.

If you had this information before 9/11, why didn't you notify the administration?

If you didn't have all this information, as much of it has been brought to light after 9/11, then you are not qualified to criticize.

Thousands of items of information are received by the security agencies every day. In hindsight, one can go through them and find pertinent clues. Before the fact, it is almost impossible.

I must conclude that the Rats are worried about Rice, and therefore are trying to discredit her. You are, as usual, doing their bidding.

What extra security did you want the airlines to put in place so that that particular incident could have been prevented?

Bingo. If there was any blame to be tossed here, it would have been easy for Bush to sack Tenent and say "He was Clinton's guy, and it's his fault."

I guess the 1993 bombing of the WTC never occurred.

Not with airplanes it didn't. White terrorists blow up abortion clinics often more than arabs attack on this soil, but I don't see heightened security around family planning centers.

Do you know that boxcutters and pepper spray were banned from air travel prior to 9/11?

Right. And so was playing with your Gameboy during takeoff and landing. It may interest you to know that I carried a large folding knife (far more formidible than a simple boxcutter, this was a weapon) aboard the first plane from Newark to LAX on 9/4/01. same flight, exactly one week before, and nobody stopped me. Why? Because nobody had ANY idea that this type of attack was possible. If you can't understand this, you are suffering from post-911 amnesia. The world was a different place on 9/10/01. Condaleeza Rice's job changed as a result of 911, and so far she seems to be up to it.

Nobody came close! You really believe that?

Since you have yet to present concrete evidence to the contrary, what reason would I have to feel otherwise?
