Tonight the History Channel presents a special on the life and legacy of the former Hollywood star, governor and president, Ronald Reagan, who is shown here with his wife, Nancy, in a 1994 photo.
BEFORE he was 22, Ronald Reagan had pulled 77 people out of an Illinois lake where he worked as a lifeguard, preventing the drowning deaths of at least some of them.

Thanks for posting this. I would not have known about the show at all if it weren't for Freerepublic. VCR is taping for weekend viewing.

I really appreciate that this is being shown while President Reagan is still alive. I remember all through the Clinton years, I prayed that President Reagan wouldn't die while that scum was in the White House.

I'm glad to see that Patti Davis sort of reconciled with her father.

you know, I loved TiVo before tonight, but I was watching some basketball game, and TIVO popped on and told me to turn the channel to this. Yet one more reason to love TiVO

So far so good. However, Patti Davis said that when she was young she found conservatives too simplistic because they saw everything in black and white. Uh...wouldn't that describe the liberals of today?

I prayed that President Reagan wouldn't die while that scum was in the White House. Yes, a lot of us did....I can remember that Oct. 1964 night when he made that Goldwater speech. He was amazing.
His daughter touched on something which is fairly clear: some people were turned off by Reagan's certainty and firmly held beliefs...
Not those of us who shared those beliefs, but some people for whatever reason...lacking self-confidence themselves....or with different & shakier beliefs...

The only sad thing is that this was probably filmed after Maureen Reagan died. Wouldn't you love to hear her speak about her Dad again?

Wouldn't you love to hear her speak about her Dad again? Yeah. Plus Maureen's death means that Michael is outnumbered by the two kids (Ron and Patti) who do not respect him the way he and Maureen did.

Ronnie, the son, is a dunderhead too. They just don't get it. If you aren't a liberal, then you must not be very bright.
The Canadian prime minister talks about Reagan's blind spot with acid rain and how it was going to destroy the environment, but Reagan didn't care. It always amazes me how problems like acid rain and AIDS disappear under a Democrat regime only to reappear later under a Republican.

A study just came out this week examining whether trees contribute to smog. It turns out that Reagan was right about that.

I was dissapointed by the show. There was simply too much history to cram into 2 hours. Would have been better as a 2 part series.

It was a great show. I found myself thinking of Clinton's version in the future, and how laughable and petty it will be compared to this one.

OBHHH yeah you had hear of Jim Rome
You get the feeling it was tribute to Ronnie that even Ron Jr the moron is still running smack chat on his father beliefs system
I THINK SO
To: FR_addict
Also don't forget taking cue from Canuck
Ron Jr was hoser eh well so was Canadians Leftists back in 1980s were hoser too eh

The Secret Service guy had me in tears while he explained that the President couldn't ride the horses anymore as he was making too many mistakes. Nancy told him that he was the one who had to tell him. The hardest thing he ever had to do,(this former agent broke down while telling Frank Sesno the story). He said the President then said "I know" and ended up consoling him!

I'm getting tired of watching "Clinton: A Legacy Invented"Correction- that's "Clinton: A Legacy Perverted."

Yes, a 2 parter would have been able to cover more, but this one did a good job of hitting the most historic elements of his presidency. I can only think of 2 points I would like to have seen included:
1. How demoralized the military was after Johnson and Carter, and how President Reagan revived pride in the military.
2. How President Reagan delivered us out of the Carter administration's famous deep blue funky malaise. Meat, gas, energy shortages.
