It really is a fascinating place. When I went there, there was a brief tour and about a 20 or 30 minute film showing how they found the Arabia and what they had to do to get the boat out of the cornfield. Like I mentioned earlier it is like going to an 1856 general store.
Enjoy

They must have some really good soil for farming in those areas where the river used to be and dumped all the silt and minerals and stuff.

Nothing like bottom land to raise a good crop.
Two things come to mind. They were fortunate to get the Arabia recovered when they did. That area was under 10 to 15 feet of water during the '93 flood. One item of cargo that they never found was the cargo of whiskey. Several of the contempary accounts of the sinking bemoaned the fact that there was a consignment of Kentucky Whiskey that was lost. I don't recall the amount but it was around 100 kegs I think. They salvagers were REALLY disappointted to not find the booze, LOL.

Interesting how much the river has moved over the years. I wonder how far the BofM's river Sidon has moved over the years...
And I also find it interesting that doing a GospeLink search for "Sidon" in the BofM reveals that every reference to it but one is in the book of Alma; the one reference to it elsewhere is in Mormon 1:10.
Note: this topic is from 12/02/2002. Thanks Some hope remaining.

If it was in a Kansas cornfield is was not 1/2 mile from the Missouri River. The Kansas river maybe aka The Kaw.
