GAZA CITY: The military wing of the Islamic militant group Hamas, the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, called on Sunday for Israeli soldiers to be kidnapped in order to swap them for Palestinian prisoners.
"We consider that the abduction of Israeli soldiers as a bargaining tool is a way to achieve our national goals," the Brigades said in a statement published on its website.
It referred to "an urgent call that came from the Asqalan jail (in Israel) a few weeks ago issued by prisoners of all factions asking all Palestinian military branches to ... kidnap and abduct" soldiers "to free all those imprisoned."
Israel has been carrying out out almost daily raids into the Gaza Strip and West Bank for suspected militants and has arrested thousands of Palestinians over the past months.
Hamas, which has carried out the bulk of anti-Israeli attacks in recent years, has been a chief target of the Israeli army's sweeps.

I call for the Israelis to send a Hellfire missile into any gathering of more than ten people that features a Hamas flag.

It looks to me like a sign of weakness. If prisoners are to be swapped then other discussions could be held. This is a huge signal from the Arabs that everything is negotiable.

Everything with the Arabs is negotiable, or they'd like to think it was negotiable. However, they never negotiate in good faith and they have this tendency to kill hostages.

One of the things I don't understand about the Israelis is why they put up with this crap. No matter how restrained and careful they are, they are constantly criticized and demonized in the press. If the world is going to despise them no matter what they do, they may as well do what is necessary to really protect themselves. Everytime they are attacked, they should confiscate some land.

My thought was, someone in Hamas must now be seeing the value of human life, as opposed to Al Queda, whose demands are non-negotiable and who do not value life on this earth.
You are probably correct in your assessment of their true intentions.

To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't put more of a premium on kidnappings. It's one of their most powerful weapons, second only to mega-attacks.
