On Tuesday, the FBI said it would pay as much as $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of Michael James Scarpitti, the alleged Earth Liberation Front member also known as Tre Arrow who is wanted in connection with two arsons.

The first fire on April 15, 2001, at Ross Island Sand and Gravel in Portland burned three trucks. Damage was estimated at more than $200,000. The front claimed responsibility for the fire. The U.S. Department of Justice considers the front to be a domestic terrorism group.

The second arson was on June 1, 2001, at Ray Schoppert Logging Co. in Estacada. Three trucks were damaged. No one has claimed responsibility for the fire.

The FBI is featuring Scarpitti on its Web site in the December fugitives section at http://www.fbi.gov/mostwant/fugitive/dec2002/decscarpitti.htm.

Anyone with information about Scarpitti's whereabouts is asked to call the FBI at 503-224-4181. -- Mark Larabee

This nut's still on the loose. Hopefully, he will be caught soon before he injures or kills someone.

If Vera Katz hadn't sheltered him from serious prosecution for his building-sitting stunt, he might never had been able to commit this eco-terrorism.

Please explain? How did the socialist mayor of Portland shelter this guy?

I don't remember all the details, but he was only prosecuted on a minor charge, while he could have been charged with much more. Also, Comrade Katz, took up his cause and wrote to the Forest Service asking them to cancel the timber sale he was protesting.

I hope they catch this whack-job eco-freak. Better yet I hope he runs into a property owner with a Mossberg on his next caper.

That said, I won't go to the FBI site. I don't trust people who hack computers and rob houses, regardless of their occupation.

Agreed.

Scarpitti usually goes by his alias, Tre Arrow. He often travels by hitchhiking and prefers to hitch rides at or near truck stops. Scarpitti is known to travel with a large, black backpack and a black guitar case. He frequently does not wear shoes. Scarpitti has ties to Pennsylvania, New York City, Florida, Colorado, Ohio, California, Oregon, and Vancouver, Canada.

We are having the same problems here in northwestern Pennsylvania. They like to set things on fire. The police think that the group out west and the ones operating here are very closely related.

I know this guy - sort of . Met him briefly at a bluegrass festival in eastern PA two summers ago. There's a little knot of people - all dopers - who hang out in Pennsy and the Southern Tier of NY.Some of them are pretty good pickers, but they play a kind of - I don't know - " Rock-grass ", I guess you'd have to call it ,and they stick pretty close together.

If you're a " Feebie Lurker " , you might want to check out the monthly bluegrass jams held by Southern Tier and PENY;both in the NY Southern Tier area. Bluegrass Unlimited magazine will probably have organization addresses.
